Maybach 57/57S Maybach 57S Coupe by Xenatec first production unit emerges

The Maybach 57 (chassis code W240) and 62 (chassis code V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since its revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class sedan platform, as were the production models. The models ceased production in February 2013 due to continued financial losses for the brand, with sales at one-fifth the level of the profitable Rolls-Royce models.
This's older Maybach coupé ^^

I saw that car last year and its beyond awesome. Meredes should have built it because it is the most desirable Maybach out there.

In fact I don't know why Maybach did not sell well. I personally prefer Maybach over Rolls Royce. I respect RR, but Maybach is more modern. I guess, the Maybach was to similar shared to many parts with the S Class, when in fact the S Class (W221) was inspired by the M-B Maybach Concept.

^ Ok......

I can give you like 10 reasons why Maybach didn't sell well, but the most important one probably is that the car is a remodelled W220, and thus not at all 'more modern'.
And your facts are not facts. Where was it stated that the W221 was inspired by the Maybach???

You mean it is the other way round?

This was the Mercedes Benz Maybach Concept that was presented in 1997. It had a Mercedes badge. At this time there was yet the S Class W140. In 1998 the new S Class W220 came. Only in 2002 came the production version of the Maybach, with the technology of the W220. Then in 2005 came the S Class W221, similar look as the Maybach, but cheaper and with new tech. The Maybach then got only some W221 upgrades but still stayed the same old and overpriced W220 with W221 looks. This was Mercedes' mistake. Haters may say whatever they want, but in a Rolls Royce, they is nothing noticable that comes from a BMW, thus its success. VW does the same with Bentley and Mercedes should have done the same, but they didn't.

Having Driven and sat in a MAybach its so sad to see these pics and see the car is dead now what i a car this was in terms of the car it self.....Yeah Daimler screwed up with the design and simlaraties to Mercedes but i tell you this car was a few steps ahead of the S class that their is no doubt....I wouldnt mind a cheap second hand Maybach

Not too easy to find inexpensive ones yet. Some in Manhattan: ;)

For those that think it is still 2002.
Lol, the Funny thing is I was looking at a 62 for sale in Hong Kong a few weeks ago ........ I kind of felt a little bit sad, like it was the end of an era.

As flawed as the Maybach was, it was technically outstanding and impressive.

Honestly, the new Mercedes Pullmann will very unlikely ever become a much loved classic .......but the Maybach 57/62 actually might.

The next Party Limousine.

I think its biggest problem was it is "too German".

Don't get me wrong I have much respect for the German people ....and naturally I love German cars.

Obviously it is a terrible stereotype to say that all Germans are conservative because there is a wonderful eccentric sense of fun in the German character .......but German industrial culture is very serious and restrained.

This niche market is all about pleasure, experiences, and art. The Maybach is not art, it's very much a product of German industrial Corporatism and has the same sedate character you get with an S class/7er/A8, it is not especially expressive.

The high-luxury end of the market is mostly about emotion and aesthetics .......and this is where the Maybach 57/62 fell a little short. The Maybach is more like a very smart business tool.

This is why the Rolls-Royce Phantom did so much better than the Maybach .....and it will continue to do better than the new S Class Pullmann too.

Mercedes has not quite worked this out yet ......if the Maybach had been more like the Ocean Drive Concept, it would have done much better: because it had the novelty, exclusive style, and sense of indulgence that sets it apart from regular executive cars.

The high-end luxury market is not just about more exclusive leather choices and the latest entertainment equipment .......it's got to offer a unique emotional/aesthetic experience.

People will pay the highest prices for products that give them a strong emotional response ......and that is why Maybach struggled.

But now I will annoy the Rolls-Royce fans ........because as much as I like Phantom/Ghost/Wraith, and as much respect as I have for BMW and the brilliant way they've revived the Rolls-Royce brand, I am also very aware of it being mostly fantasy and illusion (an elaborate marketing exercise). The Maybach (and the Bentley Mulsanne for that matter) both feel more authentic to me .......they have substance and depth whereas BMW's Rolls-Royce products are heavily dependent on perception and conceptual references.

Maybach 57 S Coupe back from the dead thanks to coachbuilder
White example costs €1 million
The Maybach 57 S Coupe has been resurrected by Austria coachbuilder DC Dream Cars and two cars are up for grabs on mobile.de.

Daimler brought back the "Maybach" moniker last year by launching the Mercedes-Maybach division, but those who are fans of the old Maybach 57 can now have it once again in a sleek coupe configuration. Xenatec went out of business so DC Dream Cars from Viena decided to fill the gap by launching their own 57 S Coupe.

The car is powered by a V12 6.0-liter engine which delivers 630 HP (471 kW) in the standard configuration, but the Austrian coachbuilder is willing to squeeze more power at an additional cost. Delivery time stands at three months, but if you don’t want to wait that long there's a white Maybach 57 S Coupe built in 2015 and listed on mobile.de for a cool €1 million. Moreover, there is also a black example based on a 2007 model which has been driven for 48,000 km (29,825 miles) and costs €590,000.

DC Dream Cars says additional cars will be available in approximately three months.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
