Maybach 57/57S Maybach 57S Coupe by Xenatec first production unit emerges

The Maybach 57 (chassis code W240) and 62 (chassis code V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since its revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class sedan platform, as were the production models. The models ceased production in February 2013 due to continued financial losses for the brand, with sales at one-fifth the level of the profitable Rolls-Royce models.
Actually they helped design it. The car had input from the design team at Mercedes-Benz.
I am actually referring to Maybach's target market because that is who buys them and who enjoys their modern approach to luxury instead of the classic luxury afforded by Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
There are People who buy Bentley or indeed Rolls-Royce who have not even gone near the Maybach.
And by the way...
We sell to everyone who wants one.

Please, enough with the BS. Rolls does more Arab specials than anyone else around and they also sell to hip-hop artist too. There are tacky people with money that buy any all brands of luxury cars under the sun, Rolls is no different.

Quit trying to feed us this nonsense about Rolls not catering to anyone with money, because they do.

They do indeed sell to anyone and they also target tacky folks who like gold trim and what not so please.

My personal point was that RR & Bentley are doing right by the tacky Hip-Hoppers, AND the car enthusiasts.

Right now, Maybach has nothing to offer in its segment to a true enthusiast, aside from an M-B enthusiast, however, the ghetto-fabs are still in love with it, as they will be anything that costs a lot of $$$$.

I mean, the Maybach is based on a chassis and overall theme designed in the 80's right? (W140)? Or best case, the 90's? (W220)?

That's pathetic for a car of its price range, especially with a superior piece of machinery like the W221 running around, which itself past its half-way cycle point.

Well this is exactly what Scott said: Maybach has a modern approach to luxury, Bentley and Rolls a more classic one, but in the end...

They sell to everyone who want can afford a Rolls. Like they always did. Be it a king, a businessman, a rapper or an rich Middle-East billionair.

I see no BS in that post of him, at all. Rather an honest and, as often, very informative post.

Designed by Burch Fred Hardt, the same man who penned the Exelero concept, the coupe features conservative styling and a luxurious interior.

That's Fredrik Burchhardt? :)

I think MB has too much pride to just give up after their first attempt, as one of the world's best car company, they believe they have what it takes to fight against RR and Bentley. The market is obviously there, they just need to learn from their mistake and give it one last shot.

True. They will impossibly give up when VAG and BMW AG have successfully injected life into old brands like Mini, RR, Bentley and Bugatti. Heading over to the CLS thread it is hard to imagine that MB are incapable of producing an admirable luxury four door sedan.

With the Maybach project they chose the easy route to enter the market by cutting corners i.e walk into a warehouse and dust off leftover W140 chassi en emptying the W220 spare part containers. But they caught out and have paid a big price for it. I personally think that MB should present a Maybach concept that shows that there's life after death for the brand and its reincarnation.

To me it seems like they just gave the 57 a CL roof and called it a day. I don't think this will have any considerable effect on Maybach's current situation. What they really need are the new generation models which hopefully are coming and not just rumors...

Not a bad affort. Maybach need to chnage up though.
Thay are really starting to look dated IMO.

It still looks kind of tired, and I'd still rather have a loaded up CL, but this is certainly the only Maybach to own, IMO.

Exactly. The CL offers much more substance and less bling and you're not forced to look at what in essence is a W220 interior with slightly upgraded materials.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
