This beautiful MC-63 hypercar concept proposes a LaFerrari-based addition to the Maserati lineup.
Beautiful lines, stunning (hypothetical) performance — and yes, that is a Maserati badge. The Maserati MC-63 hypercar concept was designed by Andrea Ortile of Torina, Italy. It shares its base with the all-powerful LaFerrari and draws its inspiration from the iconic Tipo 63 Birdcage race car of Le Mans fame.

“The design is inspired by the famous race car the 1961 Maserati Tipo 63 Birdcage,” says its designer. “The elegance and the sport of the Italian brand live together in this car.”

With that history in mind, Ortile set to work on creating a hypercar worthy of the “63” moniker. Sleek, aggressive lines show its general similarities to the LaFerrari. But a more elegant approach in developing certain aspects of the car separates it from the hyper aggressiveness of its Prancing Horse sibling.

The side profile, for example, steals its cues from the iconic Tipo 63. The keen enthusiast should be able to recognize some of the similar lines. “The roof is a constant curved line which links the front to the rear,” says its designer, “and the wheel arches are soft and rounded.”

On the nose, the iconic Maserati grille sits front and center. Similarities like the stylish, sleek headlights and sloped grille can be traced back to recently debuted Alfieri concept.

On the rear, the MC-63 paints a much different picture; a rounded boot and ultra thin taillights pair to a carbon fiber diffuser and dual exhaust tips — not forgetting the F1-style rear brake/fog light. The entire package sits extremely low to the ground and features two variations of handsome, high-spoke wheels finished in a polished silver.

Ortile suggests “incredible performance,” but doesn’t go into much detail as to exact specs. One can only assume it would be similar to the 949-horsepower (707-kilowatt) hybrid setup found on the LaFerrari. Now we just have to convince Maserati to make it happen...

it'd be interesting to do this and do without the hybrid bits. But I suspect this farther from the realm of possibility as it seems the relationship between Maserati and Ferrari has become more distant since the days of Enzo and MC12.

I always preferred the MC-12 to the Enzo, it had a purpose, it went racing and it was faster around the ring.

I like this very much .......I just wonder if enough people will really want a Maserati hypercar?

Probably more people want a Ferrari based Maserati supercar than a 'Egg, Pagani or even a McLaren P1?

And the MC12 did okay did it not?

they sold 50 MC12s.
It's fairly obvious this is more about propping up Maserati's image than anything else .....it lacks the authenticity of a Ferrari or Porsche hypercar - and of course Koenigsegg and Pagani only make hypercars.

The MC12 was built for one purpose. To go racing. And it did well in that respect. Of course the brand's reputation is related. But tell me one car in the premium segment that is not connected to propping up brand image.

Yeah, I agree with you on that .......but Mercedes-Benz builds its own platforms and engines, this Maserati is based on a LaFerrari.

It's more authentic than a Porsche hypercar, imho

And if they sold 50, they likely made 50?

Yeah, I agree with you on that .......but Mercedes-Benz builds its own platforms and engines, this Maserati is based on a LaFerrari.

And when not, they just borrow from Nissan or Renault.

I think he means that Maserati has a lot of history and credibility as a race car and hypercar manufacturer. First Hypercar (Veyron of the time) was the Maserati V4. Maserati is one of the few manufacturers that started producing race cars that is still alive. Only McLaren, Ferrari and Lotus are also still alive.

They sold all the 62 MC-12's they built.

What I think would be a great idea for a Maserati is to,do a continuation model like Jagaur, Lister and Aston Martin have done, a recreation of the Birdcage would sell.

See @tristatez28lt1's excellent post :)

Hey, I never said that Maserati wasn't once a great car maker ........but decades of poor stewardship (from Citroën, Chrysler and Fiat) saw this once very noble brand lose much of its cachet. I think Maserati makes quite good cars today, but they are no longer the equal of Ferrari And Mercedes.

The World Needs A New Maserati Hypercar And It Needs It Now

According to some sources claiming to be in the know, Maserati is developing a new hypercar based around the LaFerrari.
new MC12 will be released. But if the company is planning a future creation to knock your socks off, we want it to look exactly like the hypercar pictured.

Designed by Randy Hjelm for his senior thesis, this crazy car has been designed as the ultimate vehicle for arguably the world’s best football/soccer player, Lionel Messi.

The car’s exterior is so extreme, so aggressive and so in-your-face that it makes even the most outlandish Lamborghinis look tame. The front is characterized by a low-slung bumper and bonnet as well as a set of headlights barely 10-inch from the ground. Other mind-blowing elements include the open-cockpit design, the flat underbody, a rear-wing stretching between the wheel arches like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, and a set of stealthy black wheels.

As insane as this car is, there’s no chance we’ll see anything like it hit the production line. After all, it would struggle to pass a single regulation. If only Maserati took a leaf out of Lamborghini’s book and made something like this for the track…
