looks like jacob and the guy in black are in some sort of rivalry between good and evil... the locke we have been following since "the life and death of jeremy bentham" isnt the locke we know.
So remember that scene last episode when Flocke (fake locke) takes richard with him to tell Locke that he has to bring everyone back and he has to die? Flocke used that to get locke to die and pose as him so he could be the leader of the others (since he heard jacob and richard told him he's the leader). THEN when flocke and ben went to the temple and ben fell down, flocke's (or flocke himself is the smoke monster) appeared as alex and told ben to do whatever locke (flocke) wanted him to do. Aka flocke tells ben to kill jacob, ben wont question it, but he's really being maniulated to kill jacob since for some reason he can't do it directly, hence the "loophole" they were referring to when they were sitting on the beach at the beginning of the episode.
Anyway, Do you know who lies in the shadow of the statue? Richards answer translates into something like "he who will save us", and it just so happens that locke's body got dumped out behind the statue..?
Jacob vs the other guy is like god vs satan, good vs evil... just like the beginning when we see the black rock coming. I think theyre seeing if humans are good or bad, just like how jacob reminded ben that he had 2 choices and didnt have to kill him. Jacob = good, he was wearing white in the opening scene while the other guy (looking for a loophole) who was wearing black is evil.
