Look what I found in a barn...

Mr Robert

A friend of my dad said he had a couple of old cars in a barn and wondered if I'd be interested.

Tempted.

Oh WOW, that's a proper barn find. Fully restore it and keep it! An absolute classic, 2002tii!!!

Excellent! How is the condition of the car?
You can buy "new" parts from BMW classic.

The body is solid, for its age, minor rust and no dents to be found, and it's like 97 % complete. Good to know that parts can be had - these aren't new cars after all.

If you got the means and the time, do it. As much as we ga-ga over the 3.0CS and its iterations, the 2002, especially in tii form, is a proper classic BMW.

Well, time is not that important and I have access to a fully equipped garage.

Well, then pull up those pink pants and make it happen!!!! ;)

(BTW, dr Dunkel, even if you were achieve world peace or something momentous as such, I still think your legacy in these parts of GCF will always include those magnificent pink pants. :D )

Thanks! The s/n checks out and I'm reviewing the history this week.

Is it possible to run this old cars by the s/n for further information at BMW?

it's exactely what i want to find in a barn! An old german car, which need only a lot of love.
i don't know why a persona can leave such a thing unused and dirty for years.

I'm just hoping everything checks out and it's a genuine 2002 tii. According to my early research it's classified as a 73 model built in 1975. I need to know if there is anything special (for the worse) with cars built in 1975 for the European market. I know that '74 and '75 models of the ordinary 2002 got a few unwanted emissions related changes for the US market but then again, the tii wasn't even sold in the US in 1975.

But yeah, I must have looked like a child on christmas when i opened the bonnet and saw the Kugelfisher and that airbox... :-D

Can you post photos of the thing ?

I think I'll drop by again tomorrow or later in the week, as I need to check a few things. Wasn't prepared for what I found.

There will be pictures!

Yes you can use the vehicle identification service on-line.

Thanks Scott, the information I got from that identification was this: 1502-2002tii Limusin 2002tii ECE L M.

However, www.bmwclasicos.com told me the following:
BMW 2002 tii
Región Europa
Versión (LHD) Volante a la izquierda
Transmisión Mecánico
Carrocería E10
Generación Modelo 73
Año 1975
Producción ene-75 - jun-75

This is all fine, but I'm not sure I want to trust this BMW club in Portugal, even if it's a fine service they provide :)

well, it's a beginning, because now, you know that is a true 2002tii!

Can you check the VIN though a local bmw dealer? Here you can know all the history of the car, even old car, if was registered!
