Look what I found in a barn...

well, it's a beginning, because now, you know that is a true 2002tii!

Can you check the VIN though a local bmw dealer? Here you can know all the history of the car, even old car, if was registered!

I was hoping to get that information. I'd like to know original spec and colour. The major downside right now is that I can't track it. I've been promised service history but the colour doesn't add upp and most of the stickers in the engine compartment are gone due to earlier, failed, restoration attemps.

@SCOTT27 can these stickers be ordered?

I also want to know if there are other places than the plaque where I can find the chassis nr.

i can remember that in my e30 the vin number was repeated between the windshield and the engine compartment, at the bottom of the windshield, just under the bonnet.

This is such an exiting thread!
We should start a kickstarter to fully restore it, and hire a camera crew to follow the whole process..... :D

Or contact Wheeler Dealers or something :D Edd will take care of it!

i never saw that episode! i will search it on the internet! i really enjoy wheeler dealers, because it is the only program with some insight on the work and the overhauling that occur in a garage!

Time for a little update.

I have gotten exellent help not only from you guys but from the BMW Archive, who has provided me with details regarding original specifications. I'm going back to the barn next week to have a final look and apply my newfound insight in how to properly identify the car.

My only suspicion is that this could be the elaborate work of a Frankenstein, and that the shell is not a true tii one. On the other hand, every possible tii-specific part is there and they could go into a stripped out tii-car.

Will have to do some digging into layers of paint next week :)

@SCOTT27 thanks for the hint. I now have a great contact at your archive.

Well, then pull up those pink pants and make it happen!!!! ;)

(BTW, dr Dunkel, even if you were achieve world peace or something momentous as such, I still think your legacy in these parts of GCF will always include those magnificent pink pants. :D )

I will be wearing the pink pants for collection ;)

I have given this a lot of thaugt. It is a solid body and if it turns out to be a genuine tii, it will get the finest of treatments, should it decide not to, well, this little E10 is eligeble (in our registration system, as it is registered as a tii) for the full Dunkel molestation :-)

Brilliant. Can't wait to see the photos. I am curious to see the condition of this gem. How long was it undiscovered for?

It's been there for about 15 years, with a 3 year hiatus after its first 10 years in storage.

I will post photos as soon as I'm back. This will either be a full restoration or a full blown trackday car when its finished.

The condition is almost to good to believe - it's spent all those years in a dry environment.

Can you elaborate further what you mean by shell? You mean the whole body isn't a 2002tii? Or are you just refering to a single part like a hood, bumper, or fender? Sorry for my ignorance.

If its a real tii, I personally would go restoration (not my car though, completely your choice). But I mean not like such an immaculate restoration that you're afraid to drive it often. This car deserves to be driven often and which ever route you go its gonna be a blast to drive! Please keep us updated!

It's common practice to take a 2002 and add the tii parts to it and try to sell it as a genuine tii.

I just got confirmation that the chassis has the same VIN stamped as the plaque has. It's a genuine tii with no signs of rebuild of any kind. My brother is a welder and he said nothing has been done to the shell (@bimmerjph the shell is he car, with noting in it) and this by even dismounting the dash...

Ok, so, here comes an original rebuild.

Further on that.

BMW Archive in Garching-Hochbrück has some strange information. According to them, the car is supposed to be red and manufactured in the end of January 1975. According to BMW Sweden, who registered the car as a new car in Sweden in the end of February 1975, the car is light green.

From my investigation, the VIN has not been altered and everything matches.

More on that later. On monday I'll be collecting the car and I will provide pictures of the poor thing!
