There is a rumor that R8 V12 TDI was cancelled and that's why Audi is using the V10 biturbo in the R8 instead of the V10 NA.

Gearboxes aren't made by the carmakers but by suppliers,although some compagnies like fiat own such suppliers (Magnetti Marelli).
