Maybach 57/57S King Juan Carlos chooses Maybach

The Maybach 57 (chassis code W240) and 62 (chassis code V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since its revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class sedan platform, as were the production models. The models ceased production in February 2013 due to continued financial losses for the brand, with sales at one-fifth the level of the profitable Rolls-Royce models.
This man has a proven track record of sound judgement. Great advertisement for Maybach.

Good for Maybach .....it's nice to see somebody still cares.

......just kidding

Maybach need to sell a few more of their vehicles to people like royalty etc., it would do their image no harm at all .....image is everything at this end of the market ...let the African dictators and Asian crime bosses have their S class's ....the Maybach is for royalty.

I've seen this before, as has been said it must be good for Maybach that royalty would want there cars!

Interestingly he has the 57S, you'd expect a guy like this to get the 62!

No offence to Mercedes fans but Donald Trump used some Maybachs for his wedding and later on we learned that they were given without charge to him from Mercedes. This could also be gift for advertising purposes.

If that's true, it's a very good idea of Maybach!

Am I right in saying they are way under the sales targets?

I have seen 10s of RR Phantoms but only one Maybach on the streets.

That is quite possible ...but even though I have been [perhaps too] critical of the Maybach 57/62, it still is very much a car fit for a king ....the Phantom is perhaps just a little too Bling for royalty .....I saw the Beckhams (on TV) arriving at their outrageous party last week in their black Phantom ......it just seemed all a bit too much ...no discretion at all. The Maybach, for all it's faults, is not quite the "show off" car the Rolls-Royce most certainly is.

yes i agree the roller is more showy. WHen you say the name Rolls Royce i doubt anyone will not have heard of it. But then when you say the name Maybach very few people will turn there heads and know about it. Thats probably why mercedes is trying to give a few of these away to get peoples knowlage out about this car. Then again they are totaly diferent cars the rolls and the mybach.

Well, I don't think we can necessarily say that King Juan Carlos didn't actually buy it, and was given it by Mercedes. Maybe, maybe not.

In any case, I agree about that. The Rolls Royce has been strangely successful enough that it is somehow becoming a bling option, or perhaps even a vulgar (in the non-derogatory sense of the word) option - ie. of the common people. When you're talking about those two cars, I don't think that one is objectively better than the other, so it comes down to your preferences and the image. For a king who drives himself, I think the Maybach is somehow a fitting choice.

So, if he is driving himself - and I would - all the more suitable for him to have the 57S.

I always thought his wife was pretty hot - for an older woman. :t-cheers:  :D

Joking aside, this is truly good news for Maybach.

No offence taken. :D

You do know Audi has been dishing out all sorts of cars to all sorts of people to propel the brand image toward BMW and Mercedes. The point being, everyones in on this sort of marketing.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
