In last 3/4 years of JLR's since 2015/16 death spiral we've had the excuses, cover stories trotted out:
'Brexit', 'Covid', 'Chip shortage', 'Supply Chain Shortage', 'Dog ate homework', 'Time of the month', 'Darren couldn't be bothered coming in this morning' ... .
Reality: chronic and accelerating demand shortage for ridiculously priced, mpg/range half fraudulent DfT official, more fragile than Aldi middle aisle plastic goods, chavmobiles:

Look at Pistonheads, Autotrader, people are getting rid of their Full-fats, Sports, Defenders, and Evoques as fast as they can.
Not just the bursting of the 12/40 year UK housing bubble, but even the thickest realises when people are struggling to pay for food and heat the last thing you want outside your ex-council house, interwar, '£500k' hovel, is a toy that breaks when you look at it, costs £150 to fill up, drinks for England, and is losing as much per week as the £500k hovel.
You don't come back from the summer shutdown, in August, and tell the happy camper workers that you've just realised there's no parts - even these brainboxes will realise it's just the modern version of paid agent Derek "Red Robbo" Robinson and his coordinated wildcat strikes with BL management, when there was a build up of unsold cars and real demand plunging.
Same trick. Blame Brexit, Covid or some other spurious nonsense, 'outside forces', for the collapse of your business years earlier - pre-Brexit.
JLR is done. Bollore knows his only chance to get it IPO'd - his sole actual task - is to jettison the crap of non-Range Rover, and turn it, 'JLR', into Bentley-on-Solihull('Made in Warwickshire, Ye Olde England') - not some 'vibrant', drug-dealing shithole in greater Birmingham.
Blame these 'outside forces', and announce you have to, 'very regrettably', move away from the earlier strategy of participation in mass markets - i.e. - Halewood closed, Castle Brom too of course, and thanks very much to Slovakia - German EU taxpayers - for that huge bung, but we'll no longer be needing that massive shed in Nitra.
'JLR' will be one factory, one car - Range Rover/Sport/Duffender - 57 Varieties of the same, 'Uber Premium', £150k+ thing, requiring max 5,000 direct workers.
