Kia KIA K9 flagship comes into focus

Well here in America, Hyundai recently got the 2012 North American Car of the year...which encompasses the USA and Canada. German cars won that award 3 times. Japanese about twice. This is Korea's 2nd time. I've seen the sales of Hyundai and Kia in Europe..they are solid, contrary to Japanese brands.

So if you are going to ask, you can say I much prefer Korean cars over Japanese cars...same for innovation. Japan has been a top dog for awhile as well as the West, but S.Korea and China are somewhat rising players in the global game.

Germans are great at cars and engineering, but don't flatter yourself...The Koreans or Asians don't need to suffer from inferiority complex against Europeans/Americans. Trust me lol

You want to talk about inventions? Lol the Chinese alone have invented much more than any other european ethnicity...yea, even the British and Germans. Go look it up...and all of this was done 2,000 years ago. I am not surprised that China is re-vitalizing itself as a world superpower "again". Korea, I would wager, would be right behind China.

What have YOU invented? I also have a strong prejudice for ethnocentric ignorant folks who constantly blabber about other races/culture while asserting one own self above others. I'm sure there are many here who feel the same.

I'm not German, and I am American, and I think American companies and workers within those companies have a long history of making crap, does this mean that I wish I was a German? LOL. Ridiculous. This isn't to mention, the designers and engineers of Hyundai/Kia are LARGELY not just Asian, but German, European, American, etc. A bunch of different people, representing a company which originates in a certain Country.

German cars set the standard, Korean cars and Japanese cars follow by usually watering them down with second-rate imitations, namely Korean cars currently. They do have some of their own paths that they do lead in, Japanese cars with notorious reliability, Korean cars as well (the cars are far less complex than German cars so relatively they better be more reliable), but their claims to fames have largely been "looks like a Mercedes/BMW for half the price".

Korean cars are better than Chinese, and Japanese have nothing to do with them. In what way do the GT86, LFA, WRX STI, EVO, GT-R follow the german cars by watering them down with second-rate imitations ? If you are not talking about such ones but average cars, I don't see what is special in a VW Polo except the badge.

Not really. Korean cars were once considered low-quality and inferior several years ago....I wouldn't wager the view is held the same today. I have taken a recent liking to Korean cars and innovative companies....Japanese on the other hand it depends...I don't really like Japanese cars too much as I prefer American and German over them...I generally have more optimisitic sights on Chinese and Korean.

Hyundai and Kia aren't exactly mass-production lower quality cars...lol. It's funny how the CEO of Volkswagon himself went to see the new Hyundai i30 and was mad because "the steel doesn't rattler" and complained about how VW or BMW couldn't do this. I'm not saying Korean cars are better than Germans but I think it's fair to say they've come a long way and continue to improve.

However, I do agree that Japanese cars may fit the line with the imitiatve lower-quality mass production line (Toyota, Honda, etc). But Nissan and Mazdas are very impressive and I only prefer these in terms of Japanese companies. Fun fact, Mazda has long been Israeli's favorite car. But yeah German cars are better than Japanese cars.

Who said they did? Look at the Kia K9, that thing isn't a "Kia" in any way shape or form more than it is a mismash of other Luxury Cars, namely BMW. Hyundai has been ripping Benzes off forever, down to the Genesis with its poor and desperate attempt at an M-B grille, S-Class lines, with a BMW originated Hoffmeister Kink thrown in. The Sonata is a CLS wannabee, etc. etc. How about the W211 wannabee whatever-the-hell that hideous car was called back in the day (I think it was a Hyundai, with round 4 eyes like a poor W211 impersonation).

Now, the new Azera, though somewhat Jaguar-y, shows that Hyundai might be starting to use those imitative forms in sporadic enough ways that they might be finally developing their own aesthetic identity. However, this K9 looks like a kit-car of a BMW/Buck/whatever-else-you-can find practically.

Agreed. Like I said BEFORE, Hyundai was MUCH worse decades ago....they are currnetly making great strides toward innovation but like I said they have long way to go. Germans have been doing this longer than anybody. So although I wouldn't exactly put Korean cars on the level of German yet (overall), I am very optimistic for Korean cars like Hyundai/Kia. Maybe Chinese too. Not so sure about Japanese, however.

Chinese cars are junk. They're ugly with smelly plastics and their safety performance is a complete joke. Everyone here will too old to drive before they even begin to approach Japanese, German or American cars in anything.

Hyundai makes some ok cars now, but the new 10 years will be the test. Yes they're pretty and full of features, but most of still drive like crap and the jury is out on their long term durability. The next few years will tell the story since there are so many of them out there now.

At the fairgrounds here last night where the fireworks were, Hyundai happened to have all their cars on display. Even I like the new Azera, 37K. All the bells and whistles and a really good looking design. Lets see if these pretty designs hold up like Japanese and European cars do over the long haul.

Kia Calling Its New K9 Rear-Drive Flagship “Quoris” Outside of Korea [Photos]

Kia has announced that it is naming its rear-drive flagship K9 sedan “Quoris” in non-Korean, global markets. The company says it is still evaluating whether it will bring the car here to the U.S., but we know it’s coming sometime next year, likely as a 2013 model. That means the sedan probably will be called Quoris here, too, since we aren’t in, uh, Korea.
While we knew Kia was going to rename the K9 before sending it to different markets, we weren’t expecting such a strange moniker. What’s a Quoris? We couldn’t tell you—but we can throw out a few guesses as to what it isn’t. It isn’t a row of backup singers, and it certainly isn’t catchy or pleasant-sounding.
Regardless of what kind of imagery the name conjures, at least the Quoris’s bodywork isn’t too hard to look at. The photos you see here and in the gallery below are of some K9-badged prototypes we recently stumbled on while they were undergoing testing in the States. In the metal, the car looks just as generic and BMW 5/6/7-series–like as it does in photos. The fender vents resemble Maserati’s portholes, and the big Kia’s profile recalls that of the Hyundai Sonata. The global-market Quoris is expected to go on sale in the fall of this year, but if it comes to the U.S. it won’t be for another few months after that.

French cars arent that bad nowadays. Citroen is building its new, strong image and Renault started to put a huge pressure on the sheer quality and reliability. Only Peugeot remains mediocre and bland.

Very nice shot. I could dare to say it looks better than Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF, Lexus GS and Mercedes E Class. It is RWD !!! Such a shame Alfa Romeo could not build any RWD 166 replacement.

Better than the Lexus, without any doubt (is not that difficult to look better than a washing machine) But to say it looks better than the cars it copies, is utter, uber, grosser nonsense
