Front fog lights - Mercedes-Benz
Interior gear shift knob - BMW
Rear design - BMW
The way the rear lights light up - Audi

etc...

That they even dare..!?

It's a pretty good left-over meatloaf of yesterday's dinner. I condemn copying but KIA have done it rather well and tastefully.

I dunno, they had all the templates to copy from and still IRL the touch, feel, lick, taste and knock test has to be done to pass a final verdict on the actual perceived and tactile quality. I doubt if German OEM suppliers e.g. Draexlmaier has anything to do with KIA, IMO they won't risk their valuable relationship with Audi/VAG, BMW and Daimler.

That's how good designers work. They don't copy one single design but take inspiration from several sources. An exemplary designer does makes copying less apparent. BMW's gear knob is obviously the smoking gun here that invites scrutinizing eyes to inspect the car for more borrowed elements.

I wasn't too hard on the cars blatant rip-off vibe until I saw the gearshift knob. That was the final straw.

I think it is a good thing for the masses to get a chance to enjoy cars with a bit of luxury and style, let them have it, if they think it is good enough for them then just let it be.
i absolutely agree with you

5er/7er rip off but still....

If that was the case, then luxury and style wouldn't exist. If everything looked like a BMW or Mercedes from the get-go, then BMW nor Mercedes would be anything special. Fact is they LEAD, and these second-rates follow, nipping into them like little nats.

I'm a big fan of reason to strive, by way of inspiring oneself, that's why I like there to be a divide between premium products and "generic products". Let the "generic" products strive to give their buyers the best that they can offer, but to do so by biting so hard into the formula of the leaders, just ruins it for everyone.

I am sure those who can afford and buy these luxury goods won't feel insecure by seeing others with the imitations from the generic brands. I mean what do you want Kia do? I rather see them doing this than following Honda/Acura's path to oblivion.

there are couple of ifs id like to address

1.if my next door neighbor bought k9 i wouldt feel threatened by it .The next Sclass/7er, which are few months away(S), will be 10 years ahead of this brand new k9
2. if i wasnt such a car snob purists and if i couldnt afford bmw/merc , id have no problem buying k9 and wouldn't give a-what-about what anybody thinks
3.if i was in a market for a new 50k/60k car id N-E-V-E-R buy k9 ,when i can have 5er/E class for that money

bmw/merc/audi are copypasting themselves all the time.I honestly i dont care if they do.

with that being said,Kia is making a gigantic step forward.I like it

IMO Lexus was the only brand to nearly became successful in taking on the established big 3 - German brands and it's debatable they did somehow but not in total offerings nor tech or becoming the leader by a long way. Yet if you take a look at the new GS, Lexus is still behind and will always be just that - behind. The Yanks may have an affection for the brand but the Germans has that magic no one can touch. Then there is the richness of the history of Audi, BMW and Audi, tech, progress, innovation, following etc etc....

So, KIA's attempt means sh!t to the establishment. It's a move from Hyundai/KIA purely for satisfying the masses in China, Korea and Japan who always will buy into 'fake' and 'copy+paste' or counterfeit;)

It's either - or!? Rolex or fake....has been and ALWAYS will be. And if you're into fake and that floats your boat, fine! Just you'll never know what you're missing!:sneaky:

I can quite a few laughs reading some of the commenters on this forum here, because it is quite amusing how some people can easily fall into their ridiculous delusion of superiority while looking down on others falling short of their own apex, "delusionally"...

As for me, as an American, I prefer to go out in the real world and see results. Wonder which brands are the most successful and most popular in the states?

What are you comparing, Hyundai to M-B? If you gauge popularity misguidedly by sales, then naturally the cheaper brand will sell more cars. Pointless comparo.

Those German companies that Kia/Hyundai try and imitate so viciously would have them lost if they didn't exist, clearly.

Sometimes I wonder if some of you have ever created or established something, and had others blatantly rip it off. I have a strong prejudice toward those who do that so obviously. Not to be mistaken by "inspiration". Inspiration = Good, Imitating = Bad.

Well here in America, Hyundai recently got the 2012 North American Car of the year...which encompasses the USA and Canada. German cars won that award 3 times. Japanese about twice. This is Korea's 2nd time. I've seen the sales of Hyundai and Kia in Europe..they are solid, contrary to Japanese brands.

So if you are going to ask, you can say I much prefer Korean cars over Japanese cars...same for innovation. Japan has been a top dog for awhile as well as the West, but S.Korea and China are somewhat rising players in the global game.

Germans are great at cars and engineering, but don't flatter yourself...The Koreans or Asians don't need to suffer from inferiority complex against Europeans/Americans. Trust me lol :)

You want to talk about inventions? Lol the Chinese alone have invented much more than any other european ethnicity...yea, even the British and Germans. Go look it up...and all of this was done 2,000 years ago. I am not surprised that China is re-vitalizing itself as a world superpower "again". Korea, I would wager, would be right behind China.

What have YOU invented? I also have a strong prejudice for ethnocentric ignorant folks who constantly blabber about other races/culture while asserting one own self above others. I'm sure there are many here who feel the same.

Hummmm.....please, racial discussions are not allowed in this forum.

Understand, of course, Dreamweaaver that this is after all a car fan forum geared primarily toward the appreciation of German cars. That's why we're here - not for the sake of socially-oriented prejudices or ethnocentricity.

We're here to debate cars - in which German cars are both subjectively and objectively superior in many respects - and not to launch salvos of intolerant disdain based on one's own perceptions and prejudices. It's worth pointing out that any appreciation (or lack of appreciation) expressed by members in this thread ought to be centric to automotive products and not directed at any national, cultural or ethic demographic. If this is not the case, please report the offending post and I will remove it.

Political and cultural debate at a societal level is not tolerated here. Continue down this line and there will be repercussions.
