Diesel Hybrid Super Sport Car Concept?

A source close to BMW told WCF that the Vision EfficientDynamics concept is a supercar utilizing a small diesel hybrid engine producing approximately 800Nm and an average fuel consumption figure of approximately 3.5 litres per 100km (67.2 mpg US / 80.7 mpg UK). They say it will be able to go from 0 - 100km/h in under 5 seconds. If these numbers are remotely true, BMW is certainly not exaggerating when they call it a "new revolutionary concept car with BMW EfficientDynamics technology."
Late last year a high ranking insider revealed that BMW was working on a “green” super-sports car based along the lines of the M1 Homage concept. BMW development board member Dr Klaus Draeger also recently revealed that the company was planning to unveil a sustainable sports car concept at the upcoming Frankfurt event.

The concept is expected pack the latest in BMW EfficientDynamics technology, but in addition to showcasing powertrain advancements it will also feature sustainable design and material elements.

According to previous reports, BMW is studying the viability of the project, with an eye to eventually building a two-seater sports car that showcases all of firm’s most sophisticated environmental technology. A limited production run would be timed for release at the end of 2012, giving cars like the top-selling Audi R8 and upcoming Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Gullwing some healthy competition.

You can completely disavow the last statements regarding the car is an Audi R8/SLS Rival because it is not. And neither is it a supercar.

To understand the concept you have to look at how can a sports car be acceptable in the future , not the present , no V8 , no V10 a Concept that does not have to be based on a larger platform or have a look of excess.

"Vision Efficient Dynamics" is all about sustainability, and a precursor to how BMW will incorporate areas seen on the "Vision Efficient Dynamics" on future BMW's in ways of drivetrain , power and aerodynamics.

of course the car is driveable and it has a twin which is more "open" which was originally conceived with "Tokyo" in mind , however it's debut will be later As BMW will forgo Tokyo this year. The Concept is very much taken to "Tomorrows world" in looks but will preview the technology that is available and will be seen in incoming models.

But the car itself when you see it in it's futuristic dystopian styling we want you to go , OK I can imagine this with a conventional body shell when you envision the broadened wheel arches and the swoop over them to the front door. Try it with the teaser picture of the rear wheel arch and you get a compact coupe shape.

The lights are something we have covered in relation to LED's especially with a similar "Black Panel" technology to which when the lights are fully illuminated you can finally see the typical BMW double headlights.

As in the rear there is something similar but BMW have been at a crossroads regarding it's typical L shape light , especially in how to progress the look and to outcast competitors and their interpretation of the BMW typical rear light. An L shape rear light can be determined by utilising different forms of L. as in shape, diameter and thickness.
The L can even be intergrated more into the body rather than placed on the body and so on.

The Concept illustrates some of that design progress. Some Future models will have rear lights that are practically razor thin so when you see it , it looks as if it is sleeping and then you can wake it up.

But the Concept is purely to show how BMW can produce a sustainable sports car for the future. It's a leap over todays sports cars and it's how BMW will interpret a Sports car for the future. To which the game will be played differently to which it is now.
As we have talked about before BMW has a strategy aimed very much so in the Compact class . This segment will be more competitive because of the reason for more growth with more and more people beginning to accept Premium compact cars.

Again, BMW down the street and around the corner from the rest of all the automakers in regard to strategy and product development. Incredible.

I LOVE coupes!

Sounds like something taken from the Gina concept. Very cool and doesn't take much to see it working well as an idea. Almost as if the cars themselves are living beings.

Which would be the entry level Z car, correct?

As we have talked about before BMW has a strategy aimed very much so in the Compact class . This segment will be more competitive because of the reason for more growth with more and more people beginning to accept Premium compact cars.

And this includes the U.S., no?

I just would have liked to see a petrol engine instead of a diesel.

why show the future to every other carmaker in the world.

Concentratie on cars we can drive today and keep the future ideas to youre sefl when needed.

Because some of this technology is coming to BMW in the next two years.
Technology that will maintain BMW's supremacy over other manufacturers in cutting emissions Without sacrificing Driving pleasure.

In the wake of cars that reduce emissions by incorporating "Efficient Dynamics" BMW has received substantial World Wide fleet orders for a majority of their product lines. We are outpacing the competition in this retrospect because they are bypassing other manufacturers and choosing
efficient BMW models.

"Efficient Dynamics" is Less Emissions , more driving pleasure...

Cars we drive today will be completely different tomorrow.

you know, engine sound is a part of the driving pleasure. I dont want this car to sound like a diesel or being totally mute.

BINGO!! It would be curious to hear how that rumored engine sounds.

Today. But not tomorrow.

Plug-in electric cars with zero-exhaust emissions (or H-cell cars) are the future ... so like it or not ICE engine sound won't be a standard for sporty driving (pleasure) anymore in some 10-15 years or so.

So, it's time for you to become more flexible ... otherwise you'll turn into grumpy mid-age man - dissing the new tech, and being all nostalgic about 75-80dB from ICE engines. :D:usa7uh:

Today. But not tomorrow.

Forget about it Eni. Future Sportscars wont be silent.
Christ, dont make it sound like BMw decide how the future is going to be like. Imagine every race competition if the cars didnt make any noises. The future is not silent, not today, not tomorrow.

and what the heck is ICE?

^

Meet the Z Vision (aka Z10) ... or as presented @ IAA: BMW Vision EfficientDynamics.

:t-cheers:

^^Nice. Loving the roundel colors for the car. :D

BTW, somehow it seems like the front isn't new, just improved. Looks very doable, at least from exterior design point.
