Jeremy Clarkson: "It's not a car. It's rubbish"

Clarkson is a man who writes about cars. And no one out there does this better than him. He's a writer -

LOL!!!!!!! You can love him Martin, and you can join his fanclub, but maaaaaan, do I disagree!!!! This guy cannot be taken seriously. At all.

Think BMW boys are just complaining because, well...Truth hurts? Ive never liked the X1 because it's never ever had a meaningful purpose. It's not selling very well over here in the UK aswell, ive seen about 2 and was being driven my a BMW dealer.

What I was trying to say that there is only BS in what your fellow countryman spews :)
No truth to be found in his caricature articles.... Well, almost that is. He has to state some facts every now and then, and of course occasionally say he like 1 out of 50 Bimmers.

^ klier, who's saying that he has to be taken seriously?

His writing is meant to be entertaining. That's what makes him successful. He writes brilliantly about cars - whether or not you agree with him is entirely inconsequential. It's not like I'm looking to Clarkson for an engineering lecture on exhaust back pressure pulsing, rather, I'm looking to him to make me think, laugh and marvel at the ridiculous amount of emphasis we place on cars and our folly in how we end up taking them far too seriously in the grand scheme of things.

It's just a frikken car at the end of the day...

Well, concerning cars he shouldn't be taken seriously, because I actually agree with a lot of his off topic talk, and I do enjoy and recognise the entertainment. It's just when he starts about cars, I rarely agree with the man. For the rest he's obviously a top entertainer and I love him in Top Gear ;)

In SA, the X1 is over-priced, small, has poor standard equipment and is not tough enough to be taken seriously as anything more than an urban pavement hopper. As an "SAV" it might be a success in the lifestyle wannabe circles of fashion-conscious urbanites but as truly useful vehicle it falls woefully short at the price.

Now, the above is simply my opinion, but I can promise you that just about anyone - barring the most loyal of BMW fans - who knows anything about cars will think the same of this sDrive20d model.

There's much of what he has to say about the X1 in this column that is genuinely credible.

I don't know the prices but just looking at pics, have to say the X1's interior has a good and "update BMW" design, but the materials looks worse than the E87/E88 cars.
As for how the thing drove, come on he tested the lowest model in the range and said the thing wasn't powerful.

Clarkson is just being Clarkson.

Like Martinbo says, he does not write to explain the intricacies of the DCT in the M3; rather he writes to entertain. TopGear ceased to be a car show ages ago. It's now comedy hour. And you know what, we all love it. Last time I saw/heard statistics on TopGear was 352 million viewers! 5th Gear would have loved a fraction of that! Who honestly didn't think Clarkson's X6 review (season 14) with the Rangey prancing around in the background wasn't silly funny? That hasn't by any means altered my view of the X6 (which I really like).

Take it how you may but Clarkson writes funny reviews peppered with a few facts here and there.

Oh my God!! My dad is replacing my mum's babybimmer with a rubbish car. I better tell him its a pointless car :eusa_doh:

Yep like ile tell some friend that he is buying an UGLY car when he decides on a CLS wagon in the coming year;)

One more here. Except he doesn't need any support. It is the people that go into a mad frenzy every time he criticizes a car, that needs the support (and therapy).

People (enthusiasts mostly) get mad when anyone talks about the car they like.

Lol...Well we will see if that stays the same when he comes against Subaru! ;)

HoH, one of the best things about being a Subaru enthusiast is that you soon learn to develop a very thick skin. :) Yes, I know I own two ugly, cheaply finished, quirky, understeery, cars. But the one thing about them is that they work. All the time. In exactly the same way - they never miss a beat. They're quick (not quite fast - but quick enough to be highly illegal), they're great to drive if you know how to, have fantastic safety ratings and come with the exact amount of standard kit I want (e.g. Xenons).

Clarkson hasn't been particularly kind to Subarus of late and I can understand why - I've levelled much of the same criticisms back to Subaru's management.

But, armed with such a thick skin, not even the mighty, pen-wielding Clarkson will make me change brands. My bank account balance, on the other hand, will. :D

People (enthusiasts mostly) get mad when anyone talks about the car they like.

I long stopped getting mad at people who don't like my cars or the cars that I like. Hanging out with you lot for the last decade has made me remarkably tolerant of people's preferances and tastes when it comes to life's second most important and expensive acquisitions for the middle class public in general.

I suppose for rich folks cars aren't important life acquisitions - Bayliners and Gulfstreams are...
