F-Type Jaguar's F-Type Coupé - First Drives - EVO, Autocar etc.

The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater sports cars manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque from 2013 to 2024. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the E-Type.
Name me a current Porsche that's sexy, the SUV's nope, the Panamerica nope, the Cayman, Boxster, 911, nope, really is there any Porsche that you can buy today that makes you go weak at the knees, like a seeing a really beautiful woman?

There are only two Porsche's that I find attractive, the final 928 GTS's and the 356 Speedsters, honourable mention goes to the 917 which was a feral beast of a racing car.

You lost me, man. If I were to equate Porsche to a woman (because that's not misogynistic at all), she'd be the hot librarian. Cerebral and with that naughtiness that's buried beneath an attractive surface. And I am sucker for chicks in glasses....oh, right, I was talking about cars. Yeah, Porsches are dead sexy...the 911, especially in GT3 guise and the Cayman. The Carrera GT and the 918 are gorgeous.

Also, I LOVE hot librarians. ;)

I have my misgiving about the current GT3, but it is one sexy ass vehicle IMO.

Sexy arse vehicle you call either of those a sexy arse vehicle. This is a sexy arse vehicle, I get wood just looking at it.

Right, so your contribution to this debate about how Jaguar's F-Type shapes up against the benchmarks from Stuttgart is a one-off custom rebuild from what, Eagle? Incisive.

I've had the great pleasure of having spent hundreds of kms behind the wheel of the new Cayman S PDK Sport Chrono. It's proof that a car with precision and accuracy still is as far from soulless as can be.

No I was pointing out what a really sexy car looks like. Here's another sexy car, the Linder Nocker Low Drag

Jaguar has a fine history of making sexy cars.

^Don't get me wrong driving the Boxster is indeed a pleasure and owning them I know this to be true but this doesn't mean its more enjoyable than the F-Type. Take looks, the Boxster is a pleasant looking car but doesn't stir your emotions the way the Jag does and then there's the engine note, either of the Jag engines have been tuned to excite regardless of revs in a way the flat six doesn't.

No doubt the Boxster/Cayman is the better car when you are ringing its neck but for the rest of the time which in turn is the majority of the time the F-Type will thrill you more IMO.

I disagree. Particularly your comment about how it makes you feel. The Boxster/Cayman are brilliant when it comes to balance, steering feel, and being able to put a grin on your face. They sound pretty awesome too!

I loved the time I owned my Boxsters and everything you wrote here I agree with bar one thing how the engine sounds, it's only the final third of the rev range that IMO excites plus on the motorway their a drone at the legal limit in the UK so to avoid it you either drive slower than the rest or break the law.

So, to prove Porsche are soulless and Jags are nicer you @KiwiRob post pictures of a 60's Jag? Following your "logic" then, Jag must make soulless cars compared to Maserati, or Alfa, because those 50's and 60's Alfas..... :oldman::oldman::oldman:

But none of those cars were as beautiful a the E-type, none of them, even Enzo himself said so. But I agree Alfa, Maserati, Lancia, Aston Martin all built cars with soul and beauty, something Porsche hasn't managed to do very often.

Jaguar has built some other stunning cars in it's history.

My favourite touring car, the TWR XJS V12, these were LOUD, nothing else came close to the ear splitting noise of Jags V12, it was a beautiful car in race spec.

My granddad had a Damiler Double Six Coupe, back in the 70's

Has there ever been a better looking sedan, the Series II XJ12, I don't think so, Sir William really got this one right.

No other big sedan on the market today has the presence and beauty of the XJ, the new S Class may well be better, but it's an ugly thing, as is the Panamerica. For those who say they aren't popular, take a trip to Moscow, you'll see them everywhere, yet you hardly ever see an A8 or 7 Series.

^The new S-class is ugly? I very much disagree. The current 7er is handsome. However, I so enjoy Jag's aesthetics both current and past, but their reliability from what I gather would prevent me from signing on the dotted line. That, and the lack of greenbacks needed to attain such automotive items.

On the E type: According to you. After all beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
On the other hand, the Alfa thing was just an example, as their car nowadays are crappy, but I was using your "logic", of bringing back memories of past vehicles to justify their present vehicles and say they have more soul than, let's say a Porsche.

I think we all in this forum get the idea you like Jaguar, and it's fine with me, but to call soulless a company which makes timeless classics like this, is beyond my thinking:

I've read it all now, that S-Class is ugly and because the XJ is popular in Russia means people buy it. Lets ignore the sales figures and our own eyes.

@KiwiRob

Lets be serious, how can you possibly include the latest XJ in those photo's above?

Easy it's the best looking big sedan on the market today. The 7 looks like a big 3, the A8 a big A4, and Mercedes made the new C look like the new S which detracts from the S, cheapens it IMO.

IMO the new S is ugly, I don't care what others think, it's my opinion so I'll stick with it, no justification necessary. The XJ is popular in Russia, which must mean people buy it, different markets like different cars.

I'll give you the 2.7 RS they were pretty special and probably had soul, but that was stamped out and crushed with the 996 and has never recovered.

No problem, just know that the XJ sells less than ALL of the cars it competes with. What you see on the street means nothing when the actual sales figures are looked at.

Opinion of styling is highly subjective, and I think this discussion is not going anywhere so please get back on topic.
