iPad 2: New details emerge

^If I get one, I have to figure out which one to get.

I'm think probably a regular iPad with the Wi-Fi instead of the one with the 3G included (Maybe the Verizon will offer 4G). Plus it would be nice to see them offer a 120GB version...but I doubt that would happen.

You will see an increase in size, I promise. I, personally, am going to go for WIFI. I don't need the 3G, but that is just me. I already have an iPhone 4 paying a fortune for 3G, lol.

^Exactly...And I wonder if it's going to get the USB this time.

There is speculation that it will not be USB and it will be that lightpeak thing being introduced by Intel. I think I may have posted about it in the macbook pro thread. We'll have to wait and see, but really exciting to see all of these announcements. Cars, laptops, ipad, ha!

Aww...I was really hoping for the USB this time. I guess I will have to wait and see.

It better come with a new, higher res screen though. My eyes hurt when going from iPhone to Ipad.
Well, it's not that bad, but you get the point. OLED maybe, like the PSP 2.

A USB port won't happen. It's not like anyone will plug a corded keyboard or mouse into the device -- there is bluetooth for that. There is mobile me and dropbox for sharing content between devices. In addition to that there are streaming services for movies, though a built in SD-card reader is probably on the cards for easing life for photographers wanting to preview photos on the iPad.

I have the new Macbook Air and I love it. I mean, I am a law student and don't do much gaming nor anything other than use it for basic things. With respect to blu ray, unfortunately, based on what Apple has said, they are never going to make it. Why? Because they believe the movie and media industry is completely moving online.

Prices for Macbooks have been coming down. Tomorrow we will probably see the elimination of the basic plastic white macbook and the aluminum Macbook pro taking its place. So, it will come in at $999. I mean, that is just my guess.

Edit: I think I am going to jump on the iPad 2.

I have a 11" MBA too and love it. I also never got this fetish for blue ray drive and super huge drives on a laptop. If you are watching a BRD on a laptop, you are doing it wrong. Save it for your home theatre instead. As for disk space, I use an external 4TB raid for all my crap. And now also Amazon S3, so it is always available. I have the 128gb ssd in my MBA of which 80 is still free.

Sunny, I do too. I have about 80 free on my 128gb. Love the damn thing!

Here is some more information, that I do not believe:

"iLounge reports on several items of interest in light of today's MacBook Pro and iPad news, most notably claiming that some questions have arisen about just what Apple will be able to show at next week's iPad media event and when a true "second-generation" iPad will become available.
Two reliable sources are suggesting that next week's "iPad 2" event has some serious cliffhanger potential - as in, consumers may not see the real "iPad 2" for some time. There's apparently some truth to the reports of production problems with the new model, and as a result, no one is really sure at this point what Apple is going to be shipping as the "iPad 2," or when.

The report lends credence to a theory put forth by Daring Fireball's John Gruber several weeks ago stating that Apple could release another new version of the iPad as soon as September. iLounge's report takes the angle that Apple could be preparing to release something that could be more accurately considered an "iPad 1.5" with a camera and other tweaks to carry consumers through to a more substantial upgrade later this year.
In any case, our sources aren't sure whether Apple is going to release the iPad 1.5 now and call it the iPad 2, hold off a few months and release something dramatically better, or hold off a few months and release the iPad 1.5. The sources strongly believe that Apple cannot possibly ship enough truly "new" iPads to meet a late March or early April release date. One expects that Apple will only preview the next iPad at next week's event, then release it widely around June. A price drop for the current model would keep sales flowing until then.

iLounge acknowledges that the claims are somewhat difficult to believe given the high visibility of next week's iPad event and the steady stream of rumors that have been steadily (until recently) pointing to a March/April timeline for a revamped tablet device, but Apple may in fact be feeling pressure to do something to keep iPad sales moving as it continues to prepare what it had originally envisioned as its second-generation iPad for a release later this year.

Today's report also notes that the MacBook Pro update coming tomorrow is clearly more of a refresh of Apple's existing MacBook Pro lines, and that a significant redesign, which Apple generally undertakes every few generations, is on tap for 2012 and currently in the design phase.

Finally, Apple is said to be set to introduce the fifth-generation iPhone in June as expected. The report says that "worldwide shipments" would occur by August at the latest, with the U.S. and other major markets for the company almost certainly at the head of the rollout plan."

"A week ahead of Apple's iPad media event, Engadget revises its claims about we can expect to see at Yerba Buena.

Enagdget's previous claims included an SD card slot and a "super high resolution" display for the next iPad. Those claims generated a fair amount of discussion surrounding the possibility of a Retina display for the iPad 2. The site is backtracking on some of those claims now, saying that "engineering issues" have caused a change of plans:
Notably, that SD card slot and higher resolution display won't make it into the new model (the latter we'd been hearing rumblings about for a little while). What's the cause of the switch? Well our sources weren't crystal clear on the exact reasons, but the gist of what was explained to us centered around vague "engineering issues" which may have forced some changes at the eleventh hour.

Engadget stands by its sources and says we will still be hearing about a faster processor (A5) with more RAM (512MB). A FaceTime camera, of course, is still expected and likely a rear one as well.

The site does reveal that we'll likely hear details of iOS 5 next week which will be available to the public by summer alongside the iPhone 5. No other details there, but we should hear more on March 2nd."

So, this is what we have thus far:

A5 Processor
512MB Ram
and iOS 5

Looking forward to it. As usual, Apple give no sh*t about us operators. We are supposed to test it prior to market launch as RIM & others are doing. Actually they threatened that iPhone5 might not use any sim card at all. Oh boy if that is a reality.

on a Side note: RIM is very respectful when it comes to supporting their products, they take our notes seriously us RF engineers. They sent us countless number of samples even before official announcements or even spyshots sometimes. I am looking forward for their playbook or whatever they'll call it.

Mac OS X Lion will have a lot of iPad (2) features built into the software too.

Can't wait to see that! Lion will be the best of both worlds.

I agree, I cannot wait to see it either. At Macrumors, you can see some previews to it since they already released a version to the developers to test out.

New details on a possible white iPad?

"If the latest Chinese iPad parts are to believed from iFixyouri/9to5, then Apple may be considering creating a white iPad 2 as well. The shown bezel does include a hole for a front-facing camera that is a widely expected feature of the iPad 2. The white coloring, however, has been a big issue for Apple with the iPhone 4. While they originally announced a white iPhone 4, they have yet to deliver it to customers. Rumors have suggested that Apple has had problems with the white paint process for the iPhone 4, so it's not clear if the materials or issues would be the same for the next iPad.

Apple's iPad-focused media event takes place on Wednesday, March 2nd in San Francisco. There are typically last minute rumors and leaks in the days leading into the final event. iPad 2 availability is expected shortly after the announcement, though we've heard no word of shipments targeted for Wednesday, so same day availability seems unlikely."
