Yes , concept first. We want to translate the BMWi design language into a futuristic four door. It surprisingly works very well in these early stages. Again it will use the same philosophy such as the Carbon Fibre shell

The original Vision EfficientDynamics and i8 concepts were able to accommodate four passengers.

The sustainable image of the BMWi sub-brand will be tested by an all new Concept.

The i3 and i8 are progressive interpretations of a city car and sports car respectively. So how do we interpret the BMWi language into a four door sports sedan?

Packaging is important , because we need the vehicle to have to seat four passengers of course this was pre-emptied by both the Vision EfficentDynamics And BMW i8 concept cars.

Interpreting the BMWi design language will of course offer kinship with the i3 and i8 but it will not be an extended i8 like this.

Some elements will be retained but better interpreted to suit the proportions of a sedan more or less like the extended vision provided by the EfficientDynamics concept which looked less coupe compared to the production i8.
Aerodynamics play a huge part so the flowing c-pillar and three dimensionally integrated rear lights will be retained but flow to suit a sedan like outline , the front section will also be slightly higher.
The front doors will be more conventional with the rear expected to be rear hinged like the i3.

The doors are expected to cut deeper into the sills for easier access.

The interesting areas involve the BMWi Carbon Age continuing with CFRP although investigation is continuing in how to apply the life Modul to the Drive architecture whether it will be like the i3 or indeed the i8?
They are indeed seriously thinking of offering full electric drive and a plug-in hybrid.

Although it will show as a concept. It will be used to gain insight to whether such a vehicle would be demanded by customers.
Given the popularity of its potential rival , the BMWi sedan will not only test the image of the BMWi philosophy but also Tesla's staying power.

Super athletes to 100th Birthday

BMW plans to mark the centenary company came into existence in 2016 a new supercar. It will be a i9, which is to continue the tradition of the M1, but is not solely driven by a petrol engine, but also by a strong electric motor. The experienced auto motor und sport from business circles.

The anniversary car is a kind of super-i8, actually deserves the i10 model name, but already Hyundai uses. That's why BMW is the name i9 talking. As a plug-in hybrid sports car is powered by a combination of electric motor and six-cylinder and the system output of 362 hp of the i8 clearly surpass. Also, the electric motor itself will be stronger.

BMW i9 with high driving dynamics
The BMW i9 sports car gets heavier than the i8 due to the larger motor having 1490 kg curb weight. From zero to 100 km / h, the BMW i9 likely accelerate in less than four seconds, the balanced axle load distribution of electric motor and combustion engine at the front, rear axle to ensure high dynamics.

Bimmer should invest on a supercar for their 100th celebration, not hybrid sports cars, really... I guess bimmer is the only of the big 3 germans that doesnt offer a supercar... It would be nice to see, lets say, an m8? Something with the i8 body but with a v8 twin turbo or a new bimmer v10 on it with 550+ hp on it and that sweet doors that the i8 has! Then i would be dreaming bimmer, not audi, or even la,bo i guess... Well, if the price on a bimmer like that was lower then $240k...

Not sure about that! Coming up with a conventional car, which plays in the ballpark of R8V10 or SLS is .... simply a very delayed answer to their competitors ... not really innovative imho. Coming up with a cheap McLaren P1 or LaFerrari (technology wise - not performance wise of course) which has the performance of the next R8V10 at a comparable pricepoint might be cool and a true selling argument...

BMW i9 Approved by the Board of Management for 2016 Production

Thousands of rumors about a possible M8 supercar or a new 8 Series started going around the internet once the world realized that BMW will be celebrating its centenary in 2016. However, none of them were confirmed by the company itself though, at least not officially.

Now, insider sources claim that a BMW supercar will finally come to life in 2016, as the board approved its construction this week. Being based on the same technology implemented on the i8, the new car will be called i9 and it’s supposed to be a true successor to the only supercar ever made by the Munich-based company, the M1.

The layout will be similar to the one used on the i8, with a plug-in hybrid setup but on a different scale. The Life and Drive Modules will be kept but with different sizes. the Life module, encompassing the cabin and the chassis, will be made of aluminum while the body will be made exclusively out of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP).

Trademark 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine to be used

As for the specs, prepare to be blown away. The current sports car is using a B38 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged plant on the rear axle and an electric motor un front. The i9, on the other hand, will be using the new-gen B58 3-liter 6-cylinder plant that is supposed to replace the current N55 units.

The power output could very well reach into 350 HP territory without it being an M product. At the same time, the electric motor will also be upgraded to offer more than the 131 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque the i8 unit makes. Most likely, the output will be closer to the one of the i3, probably around 170 HP.

Combined, the two should offer at least around 550 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, numbers close to what the F10 M5 is making. However, the weight should be closer to 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs) instead of 2 tons. All-wheel drive and a drag coefficient of around 0.26 will turn this into a proper supercar if not even a hypercar. Since the i8 sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, imagine what this thing could do. It will probably be the fastest car the Bavarians ever made.

Production is set to begin on the year BMW is celebrating its centenary, 2016. That means we’ll get to see the concept behind it next year, either at Geneva or Frankfurt.

This is a very logical move by BMW, and it is exactly the supercar I was expecting them to launch. Well, to be honest I was expecting the new M V8 to be the heart of the car. It comes as a suprise, though, as SCOTT always claimed that the supercar would be an M car, not iBMW.

Yes two there are.
You will be excited because the i8 was what was possible then. The possibilities have increased to the level that you will get Supercar technology and construction at sports car prices.
Both BMWi and BMW M are the sub-brands to BMW. And both sub-brands will have their own exclusive products.

You are also going to see this name resurrected. And maybe the original idea behind the concept.

We actually just published something on the Z9 Concept. But I don't see that coming soon. Maybe a Z5 or Z7, but Z9...

IF we will see an M supercar, it will def have M in its nomenclature. Whatever that will be. IF we will see an i9 (and it seems like we will), it will be called....i9.

I'm still not sold on the idea that BMW is building a conventional supercar.

Z9 makes no sense to me if we are having the the Z3 and Z5. I think it will be called Z7.

This kind of where it gets interesting and follows through with my response on the TT Sportback.
One such strategy suggests but not confirms the Roadsters Z1-Z3-Z5 etc , Coupes as Z2-Z4-Z6 etc... But there is further scope for continuation of the series and creating another segment.

Honestly, just don't see it. So many other models that should come before that. A Z9...a segment for high-end roadsters?! Gran Tourers?
