The Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ are 2+2 sports cars jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, manufactured at Subaru's Gunma assembly plant. This car is incredible to drive. No it does not have 400 plus hp but it also does not weigh like a truck.

i have driven 200km on the zandvoort track. You can trail brake it into corners you can steer with throttle. This is an old school drivers car. Yes yes yes.
Because of the lower weight 1250kg The tires are hardly used. With my M2c i burn thru tires. My driving style with the GR86 is the same. The car is so light on it s tires.
As a big BMW fan i wish BMW M had made such a car I would be all over it.
You can put 1000hp in a car but if it weighs 2000kg all is lost. It is incredible that only toyota sees the light.

Lovely comparison! Any petrol head must at any time in their life, experience the automotive perfection that is a Porsche. Whether it's through ownership, renting or test driving it doesn't matter. That itch should be scratched.
Choosing between the two cars depend on what you want. The 987 is still a great car. However, Porsche from that era are generally poorly optioned e.g missing bluetooth audio, heated seats, parking sensors.
Unexpectedly, the GR86 is a newer car and has all the creature comfort that you may want in a daily.

My only barrier to buying a “slow” sportcar is the inability to make quick and confident overtakes. I rarely drive on motorways but instead on twisty b roads where you are prone to getting stuck behind an aygo or jazz.
Sometimes two slow cars are head and you need to clear both in one go before. Some 20 min stretches of roads only offer one or two safe opportunities for overtaking.
