GLA [Hot!] Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Mercedes-Benz over two generations. It is essentially the SUV equivalent of the A-Class, and the smallest SUV marketed by the brand.

With just a few days left before the start of the Shanghai Motor Show, images of the Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept compact crossover have emerged online. The little 'ute is based on the small A-Class hatchback, and though it shares an identical wheelbase, is larger in every other dimension.

Looking like a rough-and-tumble five-door hatchback on the tippy toes of its 20-inch wheels, the GLA is most certainly destined for production in a toned down form that will borrow many bits and pieces from other cars based on this platform like the aforementioned A-Class and the CLA-Class sedan. Carscoop reports that the production version of the GLA will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of this year, with sales to the public starting in 2014.

Since it's based on the A-Class, we expect that the production GLA-Class will be powered by your choice of Mercedes' 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and a diesel or two, and will offer transmissions that include the company's seven-speed DCT and perhaps a six-speed manual (at least in Europe). If the GLA follows the same path as the two cars before it, expect a GLA45 AMG producing over 300 horsepower, as well. As for what powers the GLA Concept, that just might remain a mystery until the vehicle is officially revealed in China.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure from the spy shots the tailights will be one continuous piece and not have the body panel gap in the middle.

Or it can be designed like the original w221 to have that effect. It will stay IMO

Seems like GLA will have 'door-shoulder-line' just like the CLA has. Which is nice, IMO.

Do you think knob controler is touchpad? Maybe preview of what's coming in the S Class?

What I particularly like are the pillar-less doors. Wonder if they are going to keep them on serial car.

Unfortunately, I have strong feeling rear-lights won't look like this. Too bad, but you can't have all.

The second pic is a bit funny to me. Looks like the car is telling: "I would do me."

It would also be nice if they kept those grab bars/structural pieces of the center console and the door pulls. Maybe they will surprise us and NOT just drop the production CLA interior in GLA, but instead change it up a little. Either way if this thing looks good it is going to sell like hotcakes, giving Mercedes a good 1-2 punch in the U.S.' so called compact luxury market.

Is this built off the same chassis as the CLA / A class? Also, might be a silly question, but is this AWD or FWD?

You can clearly see here it will not have frameless doors and I stand by my previous comment the tailghts will not have the body gap part in the middle...

Hah when i saw the video, i thought that it would be a stupid question to ask if the car has projectors in its headlights to show movies on a wall..

BUt hey IT DOES:D..

Thats so baller, i want that in my car!

Although, they are supposed to be used to project SatNav Directions, for example. Those are laser headlights. BMW has started working on them few years ago, and (for me) it comes out of a blue that MB is working on ones as well. Yummy.

I have a feeling and a request..
Mercedes to implement an off-road package for the production version GLA that includes the roof lights. I think they will look cool, tough and unique (excellent recipe for success in that segment).
I think it will be more popular and have a bigger success than the GLK off-road package.

The general design layout of the interior will stay the same but the materials will be down graded. Unlike the CLA, I don't see much changing in the exterior other than few little touches like rear lights, wheels and rear view mirrors. Hopefully the stance will stay the same because it looks sooo amazing, even though it shares the same platform with the A and CLA but it looks so wide and masculine. I love it.
Big possibility a chrome package option that looks the same or close to the concept's front and rear spoiler will be available too.

I don't know if Mercedes will be able to cope with the huge demand in the near future for their new lineups of compact cars. IMO all of them are wonderful, special and more eye catching than their competitors.

Excellent work by Mercedes lately in those huge and tough segments.

It Does Look Stunning If MB Can Make It Close To This We Have A Big Winner.

It Has The Ingredients to Be A Success Like The A Class Now Lets See What MB Does.

Hope They Can Be Aggressive With The Final Car.
