C-Class [Hot!] 2022 Mercedes-AMG C63S (W206)

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a series of compact executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 (W201) range, the C-Class was the smallest model in the marque's line-up until the W168 A-Class arrived in 1997.

I imagine the objective now is to clear the inventory before they can refresh it. IF they refresh it, that is.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if they simply retire the C63 and replace it with a hybrid 6 cylinder C53 with a bit more juice (say 525bhp total output to differentiate it from the E53).

I'd rather they save the pure ICE V8 for an E63 Black Series swansong a la the M5 CS.
Mmmm I am sure deep down inside you have an addiction for that V8. No more woosies here, we already have a garbage 4-cylinder, we don't need 6, but the full Monty V8. Go AMG go!!

If they can do both. I'm all for it.
C63 V8 returns
E63 V8 Hybrid
E63 BS V8 non hybrid

I guess part of the issue is that an E63 BS would cannibalise the GT 4 door, but I would pack that up for retirement soon anyway ahead of the GT EV.
In general I'm not a fan of the GT 4 door cause I think it means the E63s are just slightly nerfed compared to what they could be. But I guess it means they can jack up the ASP.

Hybritization is here to stay, so I believe V8 or not, the vehicles that have it now will have it until discontinued.

I expect they will launch CLE 63 with a ~470 hp V8 and mild hybrid system. I hope they come up with an E 63 with a similar engine but paired with the E Performance EDU that comes with a total system hp of high 600s. They leave the big boy power levels for the big boy models (S, GT, SL, etc.). As for the C 63, I am afraid they are married to that strategy until they discontinue it at facelift time in favor of a v8 package similar to the CLE.

Vuk Manufaktur Made the world first W206 C63s V8!

Well the non hybrid variant at least is. The E63 hybrid V8 should have been here, and a V8 C class would work if people are willing to pay 911 money for a C class

I don't think the E63 is going to happen. Not until Mercedes-AMG launches the electric replacement for the four door AMG GT 63. Either that or they're going to introduce the E63 for the facelifted W214 E-Class.

There has never been a Black Series 4-door from Mercedes-AMG and most likely never will be. The Black Series were signature 2-door models with lighter weight and increased horsepower. Some were for show, like the SL65, and some for tracking. If AMG were to produce 4-door high-performance models, it would be under a different nameplate altogether.

Impossible. GFC.com experts have been telling me the V8 doesn't fit.

Vuk me I guess

Mercedes says only minor changes are needed for the V8 to fit in the C and E-Class.
I read that Vuk spent two years changing the C63 E-Performance for the M177 to fit. The 4-Matic system has been kept and the engine makes 612hp. It fits like a glove.

500kg lighter doesn't make sense to me. The C63se is 2200kg. Removing 500kg would make it 1700kg which is lighter than the M3/4 and the C43.

But I don't doubt it is considerably lighter. The proof of concept is there. Now AMG just have to put their new flat-plane V8 in there.

What absolutely dominates the driving experience is how tight the chassis feels, it looks like the body has been stiffened up, I also test drove the C200 with AMG suspension, you can’t compare them, the difference is unbelievable.

The suspension is the highlight of this car, it’s very stiff, although small imperfections are filtered and the seats are also very comfy.

The steering is direct and precise, it feels so light and the front bites with eager, in the mid corner however you feel the weight of the battery in the back (If you drive very fast, otherwise it’s fine)

Now the Elefant in the room, the engine.

If you drive slowly, It feels like a C200 with a fake Burmester exhaust and a big turbo lag.

If you want full power you must use the Race Mode, I drove mostly in S+ in which It felt like 450hp car.(about 500hp in Race Mode)

Under 3000 rpm it’s completely dead, period, most of the acceleration comes from the electric motor in the back.

In comfort it’s to lazy, it feels like a C180 or C160 If this exists somewhere, in Sport it’s like C200 or C300.

If you want power, S+ or Race are the only options, It means that If the revs dip under 2000 rpm it already shifts down, cruising around it shifts up around 3200 rpm.

However in these modes the shifts are very hard, like SMG every shift is a kick in the back.

Downshifts are even harsher than upshifts.

The high revs means this car is thirsty, expect less than 20mpg.

If you drive a bit faster 14mpg is about right.

I had the car for a couple of days.

In S+ and Race it’s incredibly loud inside, If you open the windows you can see, all is coming from the Burmester and it’s all fake.

If I had one, I would ask to deactivate this awful fake noise, and put a proper exhaust on it.

The suspension is in comfort mode stiffer than my G63 in S+ with 22” Wheels, that shows how stiff it is.

Short summary.
The suspension is much better than expected, the big turbo lag is as expected, a 2L engine with this power must have a turbo lag, the fake sound is annoying, it’s fast but it feels slower than the power numbers suggest.
This car would be absolutely perfect with a V8, especially with this chassis.

If you have further questions, feel free to ask.

I agree. I had a C63s for a few days a few months back. The chassis is glorious, but the drivetrain offers nothing in terms of thrills other than speed.

I think a 6 Cylinder Hybrid focused purely on performance, not range, would be the best outcome for this car, given the unlikelihood of a V8.

Address the interior quality concerns and the C63 drivetrain, and this is easily the best generation of C I've driven.

Apparently that's what's going to happen, the current 63 is rumored to be replaced by a "53" model with an I6 with E Performance.

53 with 48V Mild Hybrid is what I heard.

That’s in fact the CLE53 drivetrain.

@Mr. Mercedes
I agree with you. Regarding emotions it’s the same problem like with electric cars, they’re fast but somehow boring.
At least, this one can be filled up within 5min.

I didn’t mention the low quality of the interior, because that’s a problem all W206 and C/A236 have.
