A-Class [Hot!] 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan concept

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is a car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. It has been marketed across generations as a front-engine, front-wheel drive, five-passenger, five-door hatchback, with a three-door hatchback offered for the second generation, as well as a saloon version for the fourth.
This looks good of course, but I too worry about it not looking like a Mercedes, but more importantly how watered down it will be for production.

I'm not happy with the direction of the front end, it's so unlike any other MB designs. The rear looks quite bland as well, something not good for a concept.

Truth to be told, I like the CLA design-wise quite a lot, despite the FWD proportions. MB managed to make a small FWD sedan look massively different from anything in the segment and actually good.

No way that front-end is the final production design. A slight bump will damage the bonnet, grill, and that 'bumper'. Insurance companies would scream!

Agree, the the sharp triangular headlights just doesn't match up with the rest of the car or the theme of "sensual purity" .

I think the problem with the rear is that with cars like the CLA Mercedes have in the past used the tail lamp area as a means to finish-up and resolve the lines coming down the side of the car, with less lines, there's less to resolve and clearly they've just gone with what was left, rather than moving to something more akin to the bigger saloons - or the coupes.

It looks so unlike other MB designs for now. The CLS will be coming in with the same look from what I can see.

We usually complain about the same sausage designs of the Germans, but as soon as MB produce a different design we are quick to point out how un-Mercedes the design is. Either way there's no winning.

Remove all the conceptish bits and you will still find all the problems with the current CLA silhouette, doesn't bode well.

Taking into account it is a concept car, I really like it. I like who clear it looks compared to the weird CLA, and the aggressive front end compared to the bulky headlights of the current A-Class.

But again, the first gen A-Class concept looked amazing, and the production car looked nothing like it. Same for the CLA concept.

Upon looking at the car several times, I'm really liking it (of course some awkwardness is present due to the FWD proportions), but it's superb for what it is..if they could change a few details such a longer rear overhang and slightly shorter front windows. This car could be a cute addition to the Saloon range. Would definitely choose this over an Audi A3..I really want to see the interior now..

Horrible little thing. The Audi A3 Sedan has nothing to worry about. It's far classier.

My issues:
1. The overall silhouette is too bulbous. It looks like a shrunken caricature of much better looking car.
2. The headlights are far too sharp and are a complete juxtaposition to the rounded, bubbly looking body. There is no relationship whatsoever between the headlights and the rest of the vehicle.
3. The rear end overall shape is just terrible. It lacks a Mercedes identity. Also why does small need to look cheap?
4. Like the front headlights, the sharpness of the rear end lights is just wrong. There is absolutely no relationship to the curvaceous lines around it.
5. Overall the car looks cartoonish. It looks like a toy car. Not the product of an automotive design powerhouse. I'm appalled if Mercedes thinks this is an attractive execution of an A-class sedan. They didn't have too look any further than the current A3 sedan to see how it should be done. A car like does not need to look 'cute'. It can look just as well resolved and classy as it's larger siblings as the A3 Sedan does.

I just pray the reports this is 98% production ready are wrong and the production version cleans up the mess this thing is.

Finally whoever is choosing these red colours for the concept vehicles needs some serious help. They are not flattering in the least.

While I understand that it is quite a bit to digest lol, but I think they deserve credit for trying something new, and although the rear does look a bit odd, very Audi'ish, but again I don't think its too much of an issue for a car in this segment. Imo the A3 is just a smaller yet bloated A4, at least this A Class concept conceals its compact fwd proportions reasonably well being a lot sleeker..

The problem is and it goes for the 1er also is that there are limits to incorporating a brand identity on a smaller platform.
On a larger car you can stretch the details but here you have to use what surface space they have on a smaller wheelbase. unfortunately it becomes crowded and although they would work on a longer vehicle where there are a lot of surface space. When you condense it down to size everything is all together in one place.

Exactly, we need to accept that some things are just not possible to carry out on such small scale car design, instead appreciate it for what it is..
