Hi guys. Let’s use your knowledge in trying to figure out what car I should buy.
I just said no to 2 Spyder RS allocations one in Italy and one is Sweden.

Was my dream car, but the kids are growing up fast and they want to come along so I feel selfish driving a 2 seater.

So these are the criteria’s:
Any model year even classics
N/A
Manual (might accept AT, but then it needs to hit all other marks)
Cabrio or Targa
Usage: alp passes and cruising, occasional track day.
Price: Just try to keep it below a Zonda Cinque Roadster please.

All suggestions are welcome.

PS
No BMWs unless it’s a classic pre 90s

That sucks. Kids will grow up fast and then they can ride with you.

But I get it. I am actually looking for a fun daily for school runs as the 2 P cars as useless for that and the M3 is too old now.

I am guessing also 4 seater? If so, and you want NA + manual + open top, very few choices come to mind - any 911 Cab/targa before 991.2 (but rear seats not exactly safe/comfortable for kids). Or your nemesis M3 cab from before F80 (E46 would be my choice). I think there was also a B7 RS4 convertible with NA + manual.

Ah yes forgot to say ofc 4 seats. The rears can be small, kids are 1 and 4. Doesn’t have to be full size seats.

So far the options you guys have given sucks.

991.1 targa GTS is NA, but everyone is saying the .2 targa GTS even if it’s turbo is a much better car.. hmm.

Keep the options coming.

I know it’s not easy.

You know it has to be an M3 Touring, don’t deny yourself the simple pleasures in life.
When does that come without a roof.
And you just couldn’t help yourself right?

I want NA for the sound, and even NA BMWs sound shit. BMW to my knowledge never made a good sounding car. Even when they had the v10 it sounded arguably worst of all V10s ever made haha.

I support this option. With the PSE they sound amazing. And they are extremely rare.. iirc 991.1 Targa GTS was a VERY SHORT production run before 991.2 changeover.

What’s PSE, you think the .1 is a better option than the .2 ?

Don't get a 991.1. Terrible EPS tuning.

I think you are hamstringing yourself by trying to get one car to do many things. You will get a jack of nothing. There is not a single NA + manual + open top + 4 seater that I find desirable. If I were you, I would get the SRS and a cheap fun sedan/wagon for kid stuff. You will have more fun, they will be more comfortable and safer.

ps. Ages ago, I had a road trip in the back seat of a Mustang convertible. It is the single most horribly uncomfortable road trip I ever had (till we put the roof up). The wind buffeting in the backseat was just straight up torture.

You have a point, but I don’t have space for 3 cars here..

Well, your combination of prerequisites is so unrealistic, I thought to inject some reality back into this pipe dream.
You’re a father now and you have the financial means for a great family car that you’ll enjoy when the family’s with you or not.
Open top cars are compromised in my experience.
