For fun Help find Batman's Villain!

Several years ago I took a ride in the Ferrys Wheel next to the bank of the river Rhein and the view from the top was quite similar.

Maybe Jimmy can explain this, but a lot of German cities have towers. I guess it was fashion for a while. Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin all have towers. Maybe I've missed one too.

Did your intel take that photo with this?

Plot twist.

Having had a good look at Cologne and Frankfurt, there's evidence either way, but the thing that keeps tripping me over, is that the building the photo was taken in is also quite tall... and whenever I come close to getting an angle right, to line up the landmarks we can see, the viewpoint is never from anywhere that has such a building... at least not per Google Maps/Google Earth.

I was in a hotel in Düsseldorf, that was of similar height. It was a fancy building on a previous harbour but the most remarkable thing in it was the WC because its outer wall was from glass and completely transparent. With no curtains. And when you are on the toilet seat you have the feeling that the whole town is watching you.

Was it the Hyatt by any chance? I stayed there about a year ago, and that was on an old dock.

Don't remember the name but I'll never forget the price. My trip was not planned and when I arrived I understood that there is some fair in the same time and all the hotels were booked. A single room in this hotel was 1000 Euro. It was the one with strange shape, like some of the floors were hanging.

I'd reckon this photo was taken somewhere around 16 floors up, which would put a building like the Hyatt Regency in Dusseldorf at just about tall enough, if the photo was taken on one of the top floors. When you actually start looking, that rules out a lot of buildings, or at least in amongst the 4, 5 & 6 storey buildings in these cities, they stand out.

In this image of Frankfurt TV tower, taken from Google Maps, you can see how much, that would stand out...

Do you know it's a hotel?

The villain is not resident of the city and the intel accompanying the picture says the villain took the photo at 6 in the morning before going to breakfast. Might be another type of accomodation, if not a hotel. It does lack the usual curtaining, although it's probably not taken from a room but could be from a dining floor or hallway.

Yes, the construction of "Fernseh/Funkmeldetürme" became "fashionable" from the late 1950s' through the late 1960s' in Germany. They were commonly considered to be "monuments of progress and innovation" and soon became "must have" structures for larger German cities. I believe that the first tower was erected in Stuttgart back in the late 1950s'. I clearly recall the "BUZZ" in Munich when its' Olympiaturm was erected in the late 1960s'.

They're to be found in some of the Baltic states too. It's possible this shot isn't in Germany...

I'm beginning to suspect...Vilnius, Lithuania... Also could be, in name, remotely associated with "villain".

It could very well be a German city with a "Fernsehturm" on the right, I can't outrule Eastern Europe though.
I am pretty sure that it isn't Düsseldorf cause that's my hometown and I know no place in Düsseldorf looking like that. Also the architecture doesn't look typical for Düsseldorf. As Cologne's architecture is pretty close to Düsseldorf's, it shouldn't be Cologne either.
For me it looks more like a town in Southern Germany or Eastern Europe. Therefore I looked into Munich and the two tall buildings you can see in the picture could be the "Olympiaturm" on the right and the "O2-tower" on the left. Problem is that I couldn't find a place on Maps where the picture would be taken from.

I am not familiar enough with Eastern Europe to make some educated guess there.

I'd ruled out Munich since I believe BMW's four cylinder building would also be in shot. Plus, no mountains the background.

...and don't forget "Die Frauenkirche".

Pictured on the left.

Mountains in the backround ? Only on clear, sunny days. Especially those notorious "Föhn-Tage".

I've never been to any of the Baltic States, but just looking at Vilnius in photos now and I'm struck by how modern it looks. I thought it was Toronto or Dallas. Not what I expected. I'll have to go some time.

The O2 tower is west of the Fernsehturm so the place the picture was taken from would be south which means that you're facing north and couldn't see mountains in the background.
But you're probably right about the four-cylinder building.
