Help me choose a replacement for the E-class

^^ Looks great CD. :usa7uh:

How was the ride on those 20"? I'd imagine you'd lose a little bit of ride comfort with such a wheel; if you feel it's adversly affecting the ride, downsizing the wheels would be a great idea. In any event, I say bring on the 7er

I also like very much likes James' and DaSilva suggestions; the A8 would make a great replacement, but as has been said, it's quite a big vehicle. And with that pesky garage of yours.. :t-banghea

Imo an Audi A6 seems like the best option. Unless you can't wait for the new E. And if size matters I don't think you should get an SUV now, and do as you said, add it later. You should test drive and see what you like, that is by far the best way.
Have you considered the Volvo S80? Comfier seats are hard to find. Last time I went to Italy in our 2 years old V70, I spent 48 hours in the back seat in 4 days and my back never hurt or anything like that. And the drivers seat in a new S80 is of course even better. And imo this new one looks pretty sharp too. Comes with a V8 also;)

Thanks for the photo of the 7-series!! The car looks awesome with those rims and the colour is also great... Everytime I see the 7-series, I think, damn this car looks great...but this also happens when I see the S-Class or an Audi A8...I wouldn't really know, which one I would choose.

Ok, this is the car I test drove

It's rainy/ugly today so the Audi test drive will have to wait

Looking good. It's a nice car for a Diva. but isn't this to big for the garage?
The G-Wagon is not a sexy and special car and normaly woudn't recomend to anyone but when you let AMG put the hands on it it's a totally different story. (my friends father has one and we have driven it and it just such a cool car) buy it in silver just like this movie.

Oh Boy Da Silva, I must thank you much...:eusa_clap

The you tube bit said the magic words: "lowered suspension"

so, we were deliberating.. 1-inch? 1/2 inch less? would it make a difference? ( probably not)

And then another question... did the the guys who put the detail in our garages stay true to the specs in the blueprints? Only one way of knowing....MEASURING TAPE EXCURSION!

We looked like lunatics measuring the arch height of our three doors. However find out one of them is an imperceptable inch taller
for a grand total of 81 inches in the middle, 78 1/2 on the sides! ( G-class brochure specifies 77 7/8)

As we were looking perplexed at each other and the house at a G-Class
goes merely down the street, and realize the 77 7/8 referres to the height with the do-hicky!
I just did not have the gall to flag it down for a test garage-fit.

Does anyone have a G-class in the forum?

If so could you please be an angel and measure the height of your G-class?

Many many thanks in advance

well i wish i had one.. :D.. and i dont think anyone on this forum has one..

so here are the measurements in millimeters (mm)

Thanks, Artist!!!

Hummm... 1.931 mm>>>> is 76 inches!!! (if any can confirm please do) I'm kinda rusty in conversions

so It's the Do-hickey (antenna) that makes it so tall

Oh my, I hear NSL rejoicing already...:t-cheers:

nope its just a damn tall car..
the antenna is rather short..

PS
will if fit in your garage ( fingers crossed:D)

Ok. I'm confused ... NSL would love G and it apparently fits though one of the garage doors; yet he insists on the 7.

I just don't understand men :t-hands: ( or is it that NSL really wants the 7???);)

BTW.. the 7 is 7 Ft wide, my garages are 7 ft 11 wide ( about 30 cm to spare total),

looks like they just parked it weird in the try.

and I'm supposed to be the clueless blonde :D :D :D :D

if it was down to the 7 and the G, i'd get the G. the 7 will seem dated once the replacement is out, but the G on the other hand is already a classic...but then there's the environment...

The E-Class is CD's daily driver. Getting the G will mean 'I get to drive the new one' ;)... reason why I'm suggesting a sedan upgrade for the E-Class.

The 20" is what I think made the ride comfort closer to the E-Class (and the fact that it was the short wheel base model)... but the 7 is sooo much more than the E-Class ;)

I remember when we drove the 760iL at the BMW factory in Spartanburg, the ride was very detached... almost identical to the S-Class.

I also like very much likes James' and DaSilva suggestions; the A8 would make a great replacement, but as has been said, it's quite a big vehicle. And with that pesky garage of yours.. :t-banghea

A neighbor has a 7er and it fits perfectly in his single garage door, just like it fits in ours. I think the salesman put it too close to one side reason why he had trouble backing it up... :eusa_thin

!!!!!BOTTOM LINE!!!!! _______________ So Long As It Has Fuzzy F'in Dice!!!! :usa7uh:

LOL! Not unless I get this G-Wagon with those aftermarket 24" Rims! They go well together.... :D :D

Oh those rims are sooo wrong in sooooo many ways. :D

I also think the 20's on the 7 were a bit too overt for my taste and the purpose of the car; I would like more understated, elegant ones.

Will 19's make it feel like "numbified" ride.?

Ok, the according to specs, the 7 is 84 inches wide ( 7 Ft) the garage is 7 ft 11 inches wide, that leaves 30 cm total to spare!

hummmmmm.....:eusa_thin

Still need to test drive the A8 :usa7uh:

The A8 is the longest car in its class. I don't think you'll like manoeveuring it in your garage. I still recommend an A6. How about an RS6? :D

The A8 is immaculately built, if you ever had a chance in one you'll realise how much thought has been put into the car. From the soft, very plush leather seats (bad thing is they wear off really quickly) to the LED rear and indicator lights, this car feels very futuristic. Much more so than the E-Class if you were to replace it.

But I'm still not sure if you'll like its comfort. Its rather sport oriented. An A8 4.2 quattro will appease a keen driver but maybe not one who loves a cosetting ride home. Also, it will be replaced in 2 years.
