GT3RS coming- Gallardo must go, No 650 hp Viper

I've gotten word that my GT3RS should be here in June. The local dealer is one of the 50 "premier" designated dealers in the USA. They told me they are only getting one RS for the year. Luckily, it will be orange, because I do not get to chose the color. I will get to pick other options though. Probably ceramic brakes and not much else.

Unfortunately, I have to sell my Gallardo to pay for it and to make room for it. I drove the Gallardo to pick my daughter up at school the other day and I have to say I do not enjoy driving it anymore. It gets too much attention and you can't just drive and mind your own business without everyone wanting to race and drive close to it. I have it for sale on consignment at a local exotic dealer. Pictures of it are on the link here: http://www.naplesmotorsports.com/new_page_1.htm

On a related note, it doesn't look like Dodge is making a limited edition 650 hp Viper, rather all the 2008 Vipers will be 600 hp, so I got my deposit back yesterday.

Great choice on the GT3 RS and I'm sorry to see the Gallardo go. But I think the RS will please you more and also perform better. And orange is the best colour a car can have, and it fits the RS well;)

Too bad you have to wait for 6 months but who waits for something good...

Oh so you are getting your's in June. That's like half a year away but then again the waiting list for the GT3RS is pretty long in the US and the ones for sale are a few 10 Gs over the sticker.

Sad to hear that it is working out with the Gallardo. Unfortunately public attention is something you have to deal with when you own an exotic car like a Gallardo, F430 or similar. You just can't escape the fact that some people get excited when they see a rare car.

The 911 is a bit more low key but then again the GT3RS doesn't exactly melt in amongs the rest of the cars rolling on the roads. It is a bit of an attention whore with its orange paint. Wanksters driving in riced E46 M3s will go nuts when they see the huge wing and the dual pipes. People will most likely try to race your GT3RS.

Great car mate, but unfortunatly people will still try to race you and drive close to your car when you are driving in your GT3 RS. I think it will get even more attention with the Carbon Fibre wing and the black alloys than the Lambo

When you are my age, 6 months is a short time. Porsche said the 997 GT3 would start arriving here in August 2006, but they have just started to come in in the last month or so. Porsche also says the RS will arrive in March 2007, so I think the dealer is giving me a delivery estimate based on that. Where I live, people don't pay attention to Porsches, except CGT. I can drive a bright red turbo and blend like an Accord, and even driving my bright yellow Porsche race car with open exhaust, numbers and sponsor stickers on the side, not many people pay attention to it (although it's not registered, I rarely have to drive it to the shop). I don't plan on driving my RS. I think I'll bring it home on a trailer, because either it will be rare or if it looks like they are going to make a lot of them I will probably sell it. I have come to the opinion it makes more sense to have one rare historically significant car than a bunch of mass produced cars, so in the future I am going to look for a factory Porsche racing car like a 934, 935 or similar.

I'm sad to see your Gallardo go, I really adore that car! Nevertheless, at least you got a worthy replacement for it, the GT3. I wish you the best in your new purchase. :usa7uh:

Congratulations, you are lucky indeed to get one of the GT3RS cars. They are creating quite a stir on the other forums, I'm sure you've been reading them.

Also, I like your thinking regarding the mass produced cars vs. cars like factory 934s and 935s.

I am doing a total engine rebuild at this time at Speedwerks and converting from CIS to Motec M48 as well. One alternative to doing this was to have them drop a 935 engine (obviously not an authentic factory engine - I guess that goes without saying) in instead. After discussing the driveability issues for the street, I decided to do the rebuild instead. Same reason for not taking the 935 cams but doing the GT2 Evo cams instead.

But then again, you have lots of cars to choose from for regular street driving:)

Seems sad to let the Gallardo go, although the GT3 RS will be more than a suitable replacement.

May I ask what's your daily car, because the GT3 RS is quite extreme be be driven every day!

Cool, I wanted to ask you when you're getting it and now I got the answer! Are you going to take the car on the track often when you get it? It will be very nice to hear the impressions from GT3RS owner!

For everyday driving, I drive DaimlerChrysler's Ultimate ;)

We also have a 2004 ML500 and matching 1995 and 1996 Saab 9000 Aeros

Nice to see you still have your 1996 Saab Aero. We had a 1997 Saab 900cs, loved it but it was to costly to maintain. Maybe a bit off topic, but how reliable is your Saab?

That truck is huge!!!

Good to see you have some 'normal' cars, because all those Porsches are beauties, but not everyday cars!

The 1995 and 1996 have been really reliable. No major work to either and 70K miles on the 95 and 60K miles on the 96. I took the 95 on the track at Homestead in November after I put Bridgestone RE-01R tires on it. I had to replace all 4 brake pads, all 4 discs and the rear calipers afterwards, but they were very inexpensive compared to Porsche parts. The motor mounts only seem to last a few years, but I recently heard about an aftermarket urethane set I may try. The latest issue of Hemming's Sports and Exotic Cars has a feature about the 9000 Aero.

Congrats on the new GT3RS. Sad to see the Gallardo go. Almost everycar you have will stick out from the rest where i'm at. Hell, even your saab would stick out because there aren't any saabs here at all. Your Dodge pickup would fit right in with the rest of the cars though...LOL When I had my M3 everyone wanted to race me and mine was just an E36. CRAZY!!

If you want a rare car then you have made the right choice. Although cars like the Gallardo, F430 and 997TT are more rare than the average Toyota you might not feel that exclusive with one of those cars if you like i Dubai, Monaco and in some parts of the the USA.
The only way to get something that someone in your area code doesn't have is by standing in line for a super car, 997 GT3RS, GT2, F430 challange or a Zonda. Hopefully Porche doesn't have any nasty plans about producing too many GT3RSs and GT2s.
