Mercedes Car Group: Record Sales over the First Nine Months of 2007

Stuttgart, Oct 04, 2007

  • Sales of Mercedes-Benz brand vehicles increase seven percent to highest level ever for September
  • 13 percent growth for Mercedes-Benz in the U.S.
  • smart fortwo records best sales result for September
Sales of the Mercedes Car Group rose seven percent in September to the record level of 124,600 units (September 2006: 116,000). Deliveries of the brands Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart also increased to a record 942,300 units over the first three quarters of 2007 (January – September 2006: 934,200). A total of 114,100 vehicles from Mercedes-Benz were delivered to customers in September 2007, an increase of seven percent from September 2006 (106,500). The brand with the star also posted a new record for the first nine months of the year by delivering 872,700 units, up three percent from the same period last year (January – September 2006: 846,300).
Following its sales release in all markets, the new C-Class continues on its road to success: Mercedes-Benz delivered 30,800 C-Class sedans last month, nearly double the 15,800 units delivered in September 2006. C-Class sales are expected to gain additional momentum over the next few months through the station wagon that was presented for the first time in September at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt as well as through the introduction of small and fuel efficient engine variants.
The new smart fortwo also continues to receive a very positive response from customers: The two-seater achieved a new sales record in September with deliveries to customers of 10,500 units, which represents an increase of 93 percent from September 2006 (5,400). Despite the focus on one model, overall sales for the entire smart brand were up eleven percent in September.
The Mercedes-Benz brand posted sales growth in all regions in September. Deliveries of vehicles in the U.S. rose 13 percent to the record level of 22,500 units (September 2006: 19,900). Mercedes-Benz also posted record sales in the Asia/Pacific region by selling 14,300 units, nine percent more than in September 2006 (13,100). Despite ongoing market difficulties, growth in Germany in August carried over to last month as well, with deliveries to customers rising to 28,700 units (September 2006: 28,300). With 39,200 units, Mercedes-Benz also recorded its highest level of sales ever in Western Europe (excluding Germany) last month, up three percent from the 37,900 passenger vehicles sold in September 2006.

BMW press release

BMW Group sales rise by more than 7% in September

10/08/2007

* Almost 1.1 million cars delivered in the year to September
* MINI reaches historic monthly record

Munich. The BMW Group continued on its successful path worldwide in September 2007. With 141,952 (prev.yr.: 132,202) BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce automobiles delivered, sales increased by 7.4% over the same month last year.

Stefan Krause, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Marketing: "The market has recognised that, with our EfficientDynamics measures, we are way ahead of our competitors. We offer our customers the ultimate driving experience whilst also optimising performance and consumption at the same time. This is paying off. This is why I am certain that we will achieve our sales target for this year - growth in the higher single-digit percentage range."

In Europe alone, in the month under review, 25,295 automobiles with a CO2 emission level not exceeding 140 g/km were delivered in total. This is 33% of the BMW Group's total European automobile sales in September. In the course of the fourth quarter, this figure is set to rise again to about 40%. In total, the BMW Group programme now includes 20 models that emit no more than 140 g CO2 per kilometre.

For the year to September and thus the end of the third quarter, the BMW Group delivered 1,094,849 vehicles to customers worldwide. This is an increase of 73,299 automobiles or 7.2% compared with the same month last year (1,021,550).

Sales of the BMW brand rose in September by 3.5% to 118,027 automobiles (prev.yr.: 113,986). For the year to September, the BMW dealerships delivered 6.3% more cars (929,379/prev.yr.: 874,223).

MINI sets monthly record
Sales of the MINI brand continued to develop extremely satisfactorily. In September 2007, 23,805 MINI were sold. This is an increase of 31.2% compared with the corresponding month last year (18,141 units). Never since the market launch of this vehicle - the world's most successful premium small car - in summer 2001 have so many MINI been delivered in one month as in the month under review. For the year to September, the number of MINI sales rose by 12.3% to 164,891 vehicles (prev.yr.: 146,852). For the year as a whole, the company is aiming to sell more than 220,000 MINI.

Phantom Drophead Coupé powers Rolls-Royce sales
In total, the number of deliveries of Rolls-Royce vehicles delivered in September rose by 60.0% to 120 vehicles (prev.yr.: 75). The new open-top Phantom Drophead Coupé has been available since July of this year. In the month under review, 49 customers took reception of this new Rolls-Royce model. For the year to the end of September, Rolls-Royce sales reached 579 vehicles, which is 21.9% above the level of the previous year (475 units).

Good to see Smart at least making some progress and making a real contribution to MB's overall numbers. The real test will be what happens when it is introduced here in January 2008. Would pay money to see Maybach's numbers, likely the most guarded secret withing Daimler AG.

BMW & Audi sales numbers added.

Press releases coming as soon as available in English.

:t-cheers:

Yep, all 3 have some great months ahead.

MB: new C will drive the sales this year & beyond. A & B facelifts coming, GLK will be introduced next year. Sales will grow quite significantly.

Audi: new A4 will definitely boost the sales. Q5, A3 cabrio, A4 Avant, A6 FL coming next year. Audi sales will explode!

BMW: new EfficientDynamic features in best selling models will drive the sales. 1er coupe coming in the next weeks. 1er cabrio, X6, 3er facelift coming next year, and the new 7er as well. BMW sales will be the slowest next year - in comparison to MB & Audi.

Exuse my french
but what the heck does that mean?

Meaning ED features are included in best selling BMW models (in Euro markets): eg. I4 & most I6 models (diesel & turbo), and not eg in some V8 & V12 models. :t-cheers:

And these models will boost the sales - due being more economical & cleaner then the rivals.

^to be clear..
are you trying to say that BMW sales will be bosted by the fact that they offer economical and eco friendly alternatives across their best seller range?

if so.. yes i agree..

if not.. im confused..

Adjusted Audi figures came today:

Audi: 84.700 (+1,8%) ... YTD 741.300 (+8,3%)

Audi expects kind of slow sales in 4Q due to A4 model replacement and announces sales target for 2007 around 950.000, up 45.000 from 2006 (+5%)
