Best nine months in company's history

Oct 5, 2006

Audi sold 684,700 vehicles worldwide in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 8.4 percent compared with the same period of the previous year (January to September 2005: 631,560). Audi likewise established a new sales record for September itself, with 83,200 vehicles delivered to their new owners, a gain of 7.3 percent on the same month of 2005. This was consequently the best September and the best nine-month period in the company’s history.

“This builds on Audi’s successful trend. We are well on course to establishing our eleventh sales record in succession for the year as a whole. By virtue of high customer demand, we have revised our sales forecast upwards. We are now expecting to sell 890,000 vehicles in the course of this year. In other words, we expect to acquire more than 60,000 new customers in 2006,” remarked Ralph Weyler, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Marketing and Sales.

In the first nine months, Audi succeeded in selling 506,700 vehicles in Europe, an increase of 4.5 percent (2005: 484,664). The figure for September itself likewise rose, with Audi reporting 60,800 vehicles sold (57,154, 6.4 percent).

Audi also grew in the USA with 62,579 vehicles delivered to their new owners in the year to September, an increase of 4.9 percent (2005: 59,656). Audi sales equally rose in the month of September with 8,004 vehicles shipped to their new owners, a gain of 1.9 percent (2005: 7,854).

Audi achieved its biggest rates of growth in China (including Hong Kong): the brand with the four rings enjoyed growth of 64.9 percent there, to a total of 60,467 units (2005: 36,658). As at September, therefore, vehicle sales had already surpassed the total for the entire previous year. Sales of Audi vehicles there in September 2006 were likewise very healthy. 7,877 units, or 31.5 percent more than in the same month of the previous year, were delivered to customers (2005: 5,991). Audi is consequently the market leader by some distance in the Chinese premium segment, and the fastest-growing premium brand.

The individual models that made the biggest contribution to these record sales figures were the Audi A3 (183,900 vehicles, + 12.1 percent), the Audi A4 Cabriolet (23,800 vehicles, +16.6 percent), the Audi A6 (177,800 vehicles, + 15.2 percent), the Audi A8 (17,200 vehicles, + 8.9 percent) and the Audi Q7 (32,900 vehicles).

“We have just unveiled the new Audi R8 at Paris to a rapturous reception from the public, and will also be giving the TT Roadster its first showing before the end of the year. The response to the successor of the Audi TT Coupé, which arrived at dealers one month ago, is likewise very good. In conjunction with the success of our current product range, we have every reason to view the last quarter of the year with considerable optimism,” added Weyler.

BMW Group shows increased sales in September and for the year to September

- BMW brand grows by 2.2% in September
- MINI records a minus due to availability issues

Munich. The BMW Group continued its sustained successful growth as the third quarter drew to a close. Sales of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles rose in the first nine months of 2006 by 3.3% to 1,021,534 (prev.yr.: 988,480). This meant that, for the first time in the company's history, over a million automobiles were sold by the end of the third quarter. On a monthly basis, the number of new vehicles handed over to customers reached 132,194 units (prev.yr.: 131,717/+0.4%). Never before have so many vehicles been sold during the month of September.

For the BMW brand, sales in the year to September 2006 rose by 5.5% to 874,208 automobiles (prev.yr.: 828.597). The core model series BMW 3, 5 and 7 Series all recorded sales increases. For the 3 Series, this increase was 20.5%. With this, the BMW Group's highest selling model series reached 374,996 vehicles sold (prev.yr.: 311,318). Within the 3 Series, the touring version is the leader of the pack in terms of sales growth. With 78,357 of the 3 Series touring sold, sales doubled here compared with the same period in the previous year (39,332/+99.2%). 169,595 of the 5 Series were sold in the year up to and including September, which is 2.1% higher than last year's already high level (166,132). The BMW flagship, the 7 Series, grew by 8.3% to reach 36,784 units (prev.yr.: 33,974). The BMW 1 Series also further expanded its market position. Sales rose by 2,2% to 116,684 automobiles (prev.yr.: 114,200).

Seen on a monthly basis, the BMW brand has grown by 2.2%, with 113,979 deliveries (prev.yr.: 111,524). The new generation of the BMW 3 Series Coupé and the model revision of the BMW X3 have been delivered to customers since 23 September. These models will provide an additional boost to growth over the next few months.

Because of the building measures to expand capacity and to change over production to the new generation of the MINI, it has not been possible, during the current year, to completely meet demand from the market. The number of MINI vehicles delivered after the first three quarters of 2006 was therefore, at 146,851 units, 7.9% less than in the previous year (159,419). On a monthly basis, sales of MINI fell to 18,140 units (prev.yr.: 20,118/-9.8%) compared with September 2005. The new generation of MINI in Europe will be launched on the market on 18 November. The expanded production capacities will thus also be available, and this will take sales of MINI to new record levels.

Rolls-Royce increased the number of Phantoms delivered in the months up to and including September by 2.4% to 475 automobiles (prev.yr.: 464). In September, 75 Rolls-Royce vehicles were delivered (prev.yr.: 75).

Mercedes Car Group posts record sales of 934,200 vehicles for the first three quarters of 2006

- Mercedes-Benz sales at record level in September

- Mercedes-Benz gains market shares in all regions through September

- Sales increases by E- and S-Class strengthen position as worldwide market leader in upper-range and luxury segments

Stuttgart, Oct 06, 2006

The Mercedes Car Group sold 116,100 passenger cars worldwide in September 2006, compared with 117,800 in the same month last year. During the first three quarters of 2006, deliveries of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, and smart brand cars rose by six percent to the record figure of 934,200 units (Q1-Q3 2005: 883,000).
After very strong sales in September 2005 as a result of the successful launches of the B-, M-, R- and S-Class, Mercedes-Benz managed to keep sales at the same record level in September 2006. The worldwide deliveries of 106,600 units matched the total posted in September 2005. During the first three quarters, sales at Mercedes-Benz rose by nine percent to the record of 846,300 passenger cars (Q1-Q3 2005: 773,800).

Mercedes-Benz gained market shares in all regions in the first nine months of the year. Deliveries in the United States rose by 13 percent through September to the record figure of 176,600 passenger cars.

A new sales record was set in the Asia/Pacific region as well, with sales there increasing 19 percent to 95,900 units through September. In Western Europe, Mercedes-Benz also outperformed the market as a whole during the first three quarters, with deliveries up by six percent to 507,000 units.

The response to the new generation E Class has been very positive, with demand for the vehicle climbing by two percent in September to 21,000 units worldwide. Since July, the E-Class has once again been the international market leader for upper-range automobiles. In Germany, the E-Class is also growing strongly and leads the upper-range segment in September.

The S-Class meanwhile continues to expand its leading world-market position in the luxury segment. About 70,000 S-Class sedans were delivered to customers in the first three quarters of 2006, an all time high in the company’s history. The S-Class is also the number one vehicle in its segment for diesel powered cars.

Global deliveries of Mercedes-Benz SUVs more than doubled to 118,100 units during the first nine months of 2006, due to the expanded range of models offered and rapid growth in sales of the new M-Class. In Germany and Western Europe, Mercedes-Benz is the best-selling premium brand in the SUV segment.

In September, the smart brand delivered 9,500 vehicles to customers worldwide. For the period from January to September, sales totaled 87,900 units. In view of the upcoming model changeover of the smart fortwo and the phasing out of the smart forfour, the result was in line with the sales target.

Mercedes Car Group unit sales fall 1.5 pct in Sept

DaimlerChrysler's luxury arm Mercedes Car Group posted a 1.5 percent decline in vehicle sales to 116,100 units in September as a double-digit drop in Smart sales dragged on results, it said on Friday. While demand at its core Mercedes-Benz brand remained flat at 106,600 vehicles last month, Daimler said Smart suffered a 16.4 percent decline in sales to just 9,500 units.

But Daimler said the response to the new E-Class had been "very positive" and said demand rose 2 percent worldwide to 21,000 saloons and T-model (estates) in September.

Daimler hopes that the facelift of its key full-size model will help it perform clearly better in the market than its predecessor.

In the nine months through September, sales at MCG rose 5.8 percent to 934,200 units as a 9.4 percent rise in Mercedes-Benz sales to a record 846,300 vehicles offset an almost 20 percent drop in Smart sales to 87,900 cars.

MCG has said it was on track to deliver its 7 percent profit margin target next year following product renewal at Mercedes-Benz led by its S-Class flagship saloon and a radical clampdown on costs at its struggling Smart unit.

Due to problems at both Daimler's U.S. arm Chrysler and European aerospace firm EADS, in which Daimler has an industrial holding, Mercedes sales will resume their traditional role of supporting group earnings.

Daimler's main competitor, BMW expects to report September vehicle sales for its BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands on Monday.

On Thursday, Volkswagen's premium brand Audi said unit sales rose 7.3 percent last month to 83,200 units helped by the all-new Q7 full-size offroader.

Nothing really new here. S-class has been a sales leader for ages (with exception of W220 in some specific years). Not only that S-class managed to double 7er in sales in the past, but even triple or more!

Yet W221 is still a fresh car (only 1 full year in production). I'm eager to see what will happen with its sales in the next years ... Especially when new 7er & A8 hit the markets.

Also S-class sales in US market will be interesting to monitor after new Lexus LS hit the showrooms.

******

Following years will be really interesting. MB will offer new C-class, new CLK & completely new GLK. BMW will make us happy with 3dr 1er, 2er coupe & cabrio, 3er cabrio, new 7er, X6 & V5. While Audi has the strongest weapon: two high volume sellers - new A1 / A2 & Q5. Also new A5 coupe & cabrio, new A4, A3 cabrio & TT cabrio will push Audi sales much higher! In the next years all 3 brands will be very close in global sales.

If that happened to the 3er vs. C then i'd be worried, but in this case, i couldn't care less. S class was always better in sales compared to 7er and i don't think it'll change in a short time, so nothing new there...;)

:t-cheers:

The S vs 7 situation will never change..
if it does then the risk is equall or even larger that the situation C vs 3er changes..

PS
Just a side note.. the S class rules..LMAO
