Why are they not testing an A250 sport engineered by AMG? It makes absolutely no sense. WTH! Mercedes should have simply not made the A250 with just an AMG package available for the test. Yet they use the GTI performance package.

Not likely. The Golf will win every comparison. But that doesn't change the fact that this is not the right Benz to be included in the comparison. POOR journalism or journalism with an agenda.

The first FWD car I would love to own!
In the track video... it simply did great considering it's a FWD car... seems like that E-LSD, the new MQB platform and the reduced weight are doing miracles for the GTI! Funny thing is that I was offered one on Monday with a 4% discount but I refused to buy it as there isn't a convertible. Now I need something cheap and fun to drive during the summer until I get my car

At first I also thought the GTI was expensive, but compared to the price of the A45 AMG, it seems like a bargain! It's just ridiculous how expensive some of these hot hatches have become.

The new ad for the GTi has been running for a couple of weeks here and every time it comes on the tele the wife shots me a dirty look as if I was the one who forced her to buy the X1. LOL

Really? Mine´s got a delay of a month because of a problem installing the rear view camera on all the GTIs.

The dealer knew it since mid-May and didn´t bother in calling us with the news. He got the pleasure of hearing my angry words LOL

Don´t know if you follow it but I find his reviews to be fantastic.

I haven't compared spec vs spec on both the GTi and M135i buti very much doubt that when specced similarly the two will be any closer than £5K, if I'm right then the two ain't really competing for the same customer and if they are then that's very high praise for the Golf.

I just got attention from this car from friends who has seen this thing going round the track extremely quickly.. Here where I am, just ignore the currency but this costs maybe 350k with performance pack, while a M135i is like 560k. For reference a standard Golf is like 250k. Does this make the GTi a bargain over the M135i? To me, of course the BMW brand is superior but the GTi is right up there.

Whilst looking for the 1M replacement I spec-ed a MK VII GTi to over £35k and a well spec-ed A250 engineered by AMG A class to £34k. Unlikely to get much of a discount with both being so new, I got my £38k M135i for less than £34k. With good residuals it was a no brainer. Very pleased with the M135i but its by no means a 1M!

and any concerns over that A45 engine? It must be pumped so badly, 2L to get over 300hp from it.
