I have seen the new 7 series during a sneak preview event.
Mixed emotions. You have to get used to the front. While the front grille is very impressive, the curving of the front lights is very weird. The bulges in the hood are great, they make the bonnet overall very flat. The back is like the picture but a litttle bit less dynamic. The interior is fantastic using B&O like black panel displays. The best thing on the car is the double hofmeister kink, once with the windows, once with the curves around the windows. The design of the back is also fantastic. The interior has been copied from audi.

Hey guys! Spotted the car testing in Austria three weeks ago. Saw the post on autoblog about the new 7 series so I thought I'd share.

The interior spy pics are deceiving. The spy pics shows 2 bulbs in the dash like the current 7 series but there is only 1 much like the new X5.
The i drive is second generation with some buttons around it, just like the audi and is positioned right next to the gear switch. The idrive bulb in the spypic is fake. With the B&O like displays I mean black shiny surfaces with orange characters that look like they are projected on the surface from the back, much like B&O in the 80s.
The top dashboard is in leather which is nice.
The door handle on the inside is really strange. There is none.
The trunk is very well shaped and very nice.
The front bonnet has 2 big wedges towards the sides which are high. It makes the overall bonnet very flat.

Here is a link to an article about some of the technological advances of the upcoming 7er. Its in german , but it contains some pictures of the new improved nightvision screen :

Here is a brief summary :

The first part deals with the improved nightvision system:
- infrared based (like current system)
- higher resolution
- can detect pedestrians within 100m range
- Warning will be displayed (in central display and head-up display) , if on collision course
- can detect, if pedestrian is on 'safe' sidewalk... in this case no warning displayed, just yellow highlight
- sophisticated recognition software

The second part deals with the new 7er's capability to detect traffic signs.
All standard traffic signs (according to Convention of Vienna ) are detected and displayed. Driver is warned, if exceeding speed limit. Works together with HDD based Navigation system.

Looks like a lot of techno goodies will be put into the new 7er

1. What's the function of the CS-like side emblem, and how does it look like?

But I do think we will start seeing spy pics of the V12 TT, with quad pipes!!!


Also, looks like the doors do open in a new way, if there are really no handles inside the car to open it.
Traffic sign thing is also cool.....The DOS vs Windows part is taking shape finally. S class will soon be a relic.

There is no side indicator in the side mirrors. There is a side indicator in the cs like emblem on the side. The CS like emblem pretty much resembles like the Z8.
There are eyebrows in the headlight cluster.
Personally, I don't like the headlights. They could have made it more aggressive, especially the top side. Furthermore, there is a dent in the eyebrow showing a 'Dynamic Xenon' text.
Seat adjustment buttons is on the side of the car in the door (not like 7 now in the middle) but good news is it contains buttons whereby the driver can adjust also the passenger seat. (similar to like mirror adjustment).
There is a chrome bar in the back (just like facelifted 7 now) and there is a chrome bar in the front underneath the grill where the fog lights are. There is also a chrome bar on the door handles.
The chrome on the hofmeister knick is very wide.
The rear doors are very wide.
When you open front door and rear door and you look at the car from the front to the back, the rear door is going past the front door.

Traffic sign recognization will be offered in the W212 E-Class. Therefore it will be offered in the FL W221. I still fail to see the DOS vs Windows...

Tycoon showed very clearly the door handles...which anyway, even if they were absent and replaced by a kind of button, would not be a decisive thing, would it?

Honestly, I'm asking for the technical goodies of the 7er since long time, but no real answer, only "DOS vs Windows" or "the S-Class will only have his image left", "the S-Class will look like a 19th Century car"...

Okay, it will have ConnectedDrive and 4 wheel-steering, an improved Infrared camera, lane-keep assyst and sign recognization. It of course will have the auto-brake and emergency-brakes of the S-Class... Improved suspensions naturally...

Hardly a revolution. Maybe they keep a big surprise left untill the last day?

Tyc: That could VERY well be a complete fake. Just like the place of the iDrive controller, or the double hump display.
I've seen interior pics of the door and it looked very weird.

Also, I am calling it: no blinkers in the mirrors, but blinkers in the CS style side-panel (whatever you want to call that)

IAS (Integral Active steering) not only front wheels but also rear wheels now take part in this.
Large 10,2 inch screen
Navigation system and stuff works with a hard disc rather than a dvd to increase speed (or decrease slowliness)

So, all the DOS vs Windows comes from the possible replacement of the door-handles by a button? Now that is scary. I think MB should stop the S-Class immediately, it's no use now that this revolutionary feature could maybe be offered in the 7er...

Nobody wants to reveal us the real innovation of the car? C'mon...Just a hint?
