7 Series (F01) F01/02 760i/Li revelead

The BMW F01 is the fifth-generation 7 Series, produced from 2008 to 2015. The model range consisted of standard length and long wheelbase ("Li" models) sedans. Model codes: F01 (short-wheelbase), F02 (long-wheelbase), F03 (high-security), and F04 (ActiveHybrid). Production: 2008–2015.
Why is this car called F02 and the other 7ers F01?

longer body. ITs the LI remember. :t-cheers:

AHh this car is damn sweet - ive been so out of touch this is the first time ive heard of this car....

It looks like every engine BMW is going to build from here on out is going to be turbo charged-- I dont see them going naturally aspirated after this do you????

LLS...You can put a chip in a Honda too, but that beside the point. BMW just needs to produce an M7(Actually the hybrid version is more important). Will they? I doubt it. Then again who thought they would do a X6 M and X5M........

An M7 is the exact opposite of what bmw "needs" to do.. They need to be investing R&D on alternative fuels (and i think they are) and light weight materials and efficiency (which they may be). However touting their horn for getting 18mpg seems a bit silly. Did they get that figure by idling to each location??

They should start looking at being on the other side of the technological transition thats going to occur within the next 10 years - that is cars powered by something other than gasoline. Hybrids are not the answer either.

Plus,
the line up is already powerful without M derivatives - i'd be surprised if the M division is going to expand much, but then again i was flabbergasted when i saw the debut photos of the X5 and X6 M variants. They build these ridiculous SUVs thats only going to hurt BMW's image - and they drop the M3 CSL? Sell outs for short run profits. Why is BMW becoming an image for the "guido" - let mercedes have that.

Sorry, i'm not making a point here.. just venting. I love BMW but i'm certainly concerned about their recent direction.

See that is what I do not understand about BMW fans. It’s always some special “M” logic that must go along with BMW. I really feel as though BMW has conditioned their fans to expect the expected. Always looking forward to an M3 and M5 like no other vehicle should have that. “It’s all about weight” and what’s good enough for BMW’s credibility.

I can promise you that the X5 M and X6 M will not hurt BMW image on bit. I’m sure someone will probably love that idea and head right to their BMW dealership, which is what car makers need. Sometimes you have to throw that “Old world Philosophy” out the window. Time changes and so does the economy. I’m sure the BMW executives know what their doing. If they decide to do a M7, then as an BMW fan you should support them. Never doubt your company. Now if BMW does a 7 series wagon that looks like a Pontiac Aztek….then you might want to worry. But you have to let go of that “Only M I should see is the 3 and 5 because that what BMW has always given us.

Personally anything Mercedes-Benz gives me as a MB Loyalist I am happy. They can AMG the GL and will be fine. As a customer you have the option to pass the car over. If your in the market for a M car then you have the option of seeing all that BMW has to offer. If you want an M3 instead of a X5M then you can get that M3 and someone else will get the X5 M. Simple as that. At least BMW is giving the customers more options. Benz will give me any AMG I want ( well except for the new E-class coupe and GL for now). So if I am in the market for any Benz and I decide I want extreme power then I have that option.

YES other vehicles are needed like hybrids and other cost saving technology, but I am sure BMW already has it covered.

What I don`t understand is why BMW debuted the 8-speed with the 760iL
and left the 6-speed to the 750. Was that one more jump in a technical advancement? This feature should have debuded on both models.

It has been fun , arguing , stating a point and of course debating the debate, unfortunately I am departing although someone else will take my place here as I am moving up the promotional ladder in the marketing dept. I will be responsible for product marketing next years 5er,6er and X3 models.

Enjoy The 5er GT and X1 and Silver Ghost media.

*Salutes Scott*

Congratulations on your promotions, good luck and farewell.

It gives the 760Li another "exclusive" to sell on for a while. Come facelift time the 750i will probably get the 8-speed too.

I appreciate your argument.. but

As an enthusiast i think its our obligation to question the company - especially when one has a large stake in that company. Thats the difference between an enthusiast and a fan-boy. a fan boy simply goes along with everything the company does - without looking at the big picture.

What does the X5-M do for BMW? Sure its new variant on a car - and hell maybe their is a market there, and maybe its brilliantly powerful etc. etc. IF its simply a marketing reaction to customer demand, it may be a mistake. In my honest opinion, what makes a company unique is its ability to ignore certain market pressures - if that market pressure is suggesting it do something that is out of character and philosophy of that company.

What makes M cars unique is their rarity and purity - if BMW starts slapping M badges on everything, it may start destroying the reputation that it spent years building. Needless to say, putting the M badge on an X5 runs the risk of damaging the brand image. An M7 would do the same thing. It portrays BMW as a resource sucking, market impulsive company.
If BMW becomes a marketing machine - rather than a brilliant automotive manufacturer - thats a sad day.

BMW spending money on people like SCOTT 27 (in order to keep us enthused about future products) is sad to me. They need to keep marketing under control and continue doing what they do best..

what they have done in the past is a winning formula - thats why when they change it, it worries me. Remember - I'm a bigger stakeholder than most people....(not because im a fan)

^^^^ I thought of Honda also when reading that post. Excellent points.

Again...It is totally up to BMW. If they want to slap an M badge on everything then so be it. I am sure their engineers will make sure that it's customers have the "Ultimate Driving Experience" in all of their BMW M models.

It does not damage their image unless the quality of their vehicles goes down or more engine fires occur. It is absolutely pointless to complain when we have no idea what the X6 and X5 M will actually do for BMW.

If they fail then "Lesson Learned", if not then hopefully we will see more M's. I personally would love to see an M7 vs. S65 comparison. Plus I'm sure somewhere there is a market for it. Might be after this economic shake up is over, but it's out there.

Firstly, the whole story you wrote there has nothing to do with the new V12 760i, and therefore is completely off topic.

Secondly, the quoted part: I don't think BMW pays Scott to go here. When he is on this forum, it is in his own free time, and only talking about things that do not hurt the company. He gets paid for doing other things.

I was responding to the comment that BMW needs an M7, didnt mean to bring it off topic.

Im sure the 760li is going to be a great car - and a great engine - will it sell? Time will tell. Unfortunately in this market - extravagance is going to suffer.

Not to go on about it ... A distraction.

The nose looks an ill-fitted mess in that shot. Looks like the hood is open.

except for the headlamps, the front looks terrible. Are BMW going to offer an ///M pack or aero pack? Any idea when?

The front looks stunning. This is just a very poor shot! One of the worst I've seen, actually....
I have read those M pack rumors too, hope we'll see one in not too long!

Klier, how come the front bumpers on the 7 series are so plain? I've seen it in person and everything seems to be dramatic on it (especially the nose) then the front bumper is so straight forward.
