Hi all!

We need a big car as a means to take the whole family (there will be four of us in August) and I'm thinking "why not do something stupid?".

I want a big car for them to go about in and I want gadgets. I know this might sound stupid, but looking around, the 730 is a great catch, looking at cost today and what you get. So, are there any pits? Could this be a less than apocalyptic buy for a couple of years?

Any owners out there?

How is the depreciation on them in your area? Over here they depreciate like crazy. If you can stomach the apocalyptic depreciation then go for it.

Well, the early cars are down to like a third of the original price, so, the main hit has been taken.

I just don't know if this is a good idea. Why can't I just go down the usual big station wagon route?

I love the 7 Series. The 730d is fast enough in my experience and you get great fuel economy.

Over 4,030km of mixed driving I got an average consumption of 38.5mpg (7.3 l/100km). Of those were 866.9km at a constant 120km/h, and then I got 44.5mpg (6.3l/100km).

Why don't you go test drive some of the potential candidates, and don't forget to try them with the child seats in place to see how they'll fit. I'm a tall guy and if you place our baby seat behind the driver's seat in my Octavia, there's no way I'd be able to get a driving position that's anywhere near comfortable (or safe for that matter). The seat my daughter now uses will fit... just.
