M3/M4 E92 M3 discussion thread III

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
I'm guessing the PR is only going to say..."A new concept being presented". Even though all of us enthusiasts know what's going to be there, it's still a surprise for most of the general public.

BMW will also present the "Individual" 3er Cabrio at Geneva and also because this is the first major european show it is always not about what is on display at front but behind closed doors.:D

Remember M5 concept case? There were rumors M5 Concept would be shown in Geneva, it was not mentioned in regular "BMW in Geneva" press release, yet the pics & text (scheduled for Concept premiere) appeared on official BMW site (was it bmwusa?) few days too early, and was then redrawn - and then re-released when D-day came.

yes it was a BMW NA employee and yes they still have not found his body...:D

BMW want this to be a surprise not just any debut. Now that Audi's A5 has been leaked - Audi have now lost the element of surprise with their presentation which no doubt would have featured the car along with the Z-list celebrities (here is extra no.2 from desperate housewives:D)* the M3 will drive onto the stand similar to the M5 presentation 2 years ago. But it will be shown the night before at the BMW preview dinner and then it's off to the MINI International Geneva pre-show event in Downtown Geneva. Which is basically a huge party with visuals , multi-coloured MINI cocktails and pumping tunes...

* Possibly the best celebrity launch was the World premiere of the New shape VW Beetle in Detroit back in 1998 - When VW boss was surrounding by numerous celebrities to launch the Beetle I remember the VW Boss ask him Would you own this car? Whilst conforming to the script the heavy paycheck no doubt wrote he said sure. But off camera he turned to a friend and said in the presence of journalists " That he would'nt be seen dead in this car".:D

Thats great info Scott...I knew you were probably busy! Anyways...can you finally tell us if the license plate is on the boot or not? And of course...out of 10 how would you rate the looks? be honest.

I WILL SAY ONLY THIS... when you see the new BMW M3 you will see it as a three dimensional shape rather than a photo-real image on a piece of paper or on a forum. While some will not take to what has been done it is something that does appear to stand out more rather than what you have already seen. And there you can judge for yourself how it looks in it's true visional state rather than a digital creation . But all this comes because of a reason and a reason that helps the car achieves it's goals in what it's purpose is for aswell as to distance the car visually away from the portfolio of the other 3er Coupe products.

Geneva Press realese:

Sounds good to me. Differentiation from the 3er coupe is a good thing because I wouldn't want people confusing a normal 3er with my new M3 :D (hopefully)

Thanks for the info Scott. :t-cheers:

Scott27's message suggests to me that the license plate will be on the rear bumper to better "distance the car visually from the other 3er Coupe products."

English version BMW in Geneva 2007 PR:

"BMW is taking advantage of the most important annual motor show on the European continent to launch
a variety of world premieres and to present a spectacular concept study"

It's coming, late but sure...

Best regards, south

License plate on bumper, dual winged side mirrors, probably + something else that has not been seen on the mules thus far. Distance and distinction are good, it needs to be different from other 3er's to match the enormous engineering and performance differences. I suppose some folks like the stealth style but personally I think this diminishes the car. It may take some getting used to, just like E46 M3 did at first, but it won't be long after Geneva when we will all be :icondrool . Thanks Scott.

Scottie, behave! :D

Guys, that's just a chop of Technik E92:

And again: I got a confirmation a license plate will be on a boot lid - speaking of regular M3. While M3 CSL will have a different lightweight boot lid, different rear bumper with different diffusor, and therefore license plate in bumper.

You get the idea on how it will work on the rear of the car. But I am curious to see the "Autospies" exclusive....

More horsepower rumours

I have heard from reliable sources:

The M3 will be released with

~440 hp
MANUAL gear box
Later, a double-clutch will arrive.

Scott, true or false?

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
