M3/M4 E92 M3 discussion thread II

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
I don't know how this thread became a M3 vs RS4 thread, but here is more information that supports my claim that the old E46 M3 had comparable performance numbers to the old 911 Carrera (996).

This was a head to head comparison between 4 cars performed by Road & Track in March 2003. You can go to the Road & Track website to get these numbers. 2 of those cars compared were the M3 with SMGII and a Porsche 911 Targa. I always like to use head to head comparisions to compare cars because they take away the uncertainties about different track conditions on different days, temparature, humidity, wind, different drivers, etc, etc.

M3 (E46)/911 Targa (996)
0-60mph: 4.9s/5.0s
1/4 mile: 13.5s/13.5s
lap time: 1:40.09s/1:40.79s
skidpad: 0.89g/0.92g
slalom: 68.8mph/65.5mph
braking (80-0mph): 213ft/208ft

And yes, we are talking about 2 old cars, so all the reliable data about them are at least a few years old now. You won't find any recent tests about the 996 Porsche because it has been discontinued for a few years now.

I think all the data so far confirms that the old E46 M3 had numbers that approached the old 911 (996). If BMW can repeat history, the new M3 may indeed rival the current 911 (997).

And CAR-NNOSEUR.......the truth may hurt, but at least you've come out being a more knowledgeable person about cars.

I don't blame you for anything, It's just that I could care less about a 5 going on 6 year old info! I thought your position was based on fairly current info. I apologize for the miss understanding! Did you help (PC VALKYRIE) off his or her Knees let? Lol:t-hands: !!

it still valid and is used around the world. Among both carentusiasts and carmakers. Sportauto is the ultimate source for comparing laptimes and been that for many many years.
Age doesnt matter, it the same car and the results are still valid. You just mad cause you werent right about M3 and 911. You were owned thats why you are so negative about sportauto. ;)

PS you are the first accussing sportauto to not be valid source. Majority of the people would think you are nuts dissing sportauto.

No. BMW M have gone on record that the production car will debut at the IAA in Frankfurt next September. After international launch in July ,
The car will be in Geneva but only as a teaser "BMW Concept Car M3" similar to the "BMW Concept Car M5" in Geneva in 2004.

Um, ok??? So how was I wrong??? :D Concept or production, Spring '07 will be the launch of the E92 M3 as we will know it.

Everyone,

I want to make this clear to every single member that has participated in this thread. Please do not bash anything whether it be a car, company, person, etc. If you have an issue with any of the aforementioned please post in a mature and decent manner or simply contact a moderator. From what I can see there is no need for the latter.

This is a friendly reminder and not a warning. We had issues recently with a member that was absurd and just out of control with his immature posts. This thread pertains to only one vehicle and that is it. There is no comparison intended by the author of the thread or the title. This is not to say that no comparison is allowed, but if it is, it should be mentioned lightly and with an educated manner and information.

No trollers will be allowed in this thread or any other ones for that matter. Please refer to the forum rules or a moderator that is currently online for help.

We will not tolerate immaturity, bashers, and trollers.

Once again, this is a friendly reminder.

First of all as a automobile manufacturer we do not stand still .
You argue that the next M3 does not deserve to be in business against the Audi R8 - How?

First of all BMW is a very progressive organisation and M division is the epitome of progression. With progression or evolution you cannot stand still hence why the new M3 is gearing towards cars it never thought of or indeed accepted as rivals to a BMW. The new M3 is evolving in answer to market requirements - The competition is increasing thanks to mainly luxury segment cars downsizing creating established marques for competition.

Introducing the M3 with a V8 accelerates BMW's overall product plan - The 3er becomes the mid-range BMW no longer the entry car as will upcoming products close the gaps on premium market entry cars but as M variant as well.

Whilst the press are speculating that the Audi R8 has got BMW etc running scared that we are fast developing rivals is further from the truth. Maybe Mercedes-Benz are fast tracking an R8 rival BMW are not.
Audi have gone on record that the R8 is an identity car to further establish the Audi brand - BMW do not need to establish their brand - BMW's identity cars will be the upcoming RFK SX (SportCrossover) and X6 |SAC Sport Activity Coupe Which I can say are entirely new segments for any manufacturer and do not include the R-Klasse Mercedes-Benz because after seeing the RFK and the R-Klasse together the R-Klasse is more like a Mini-Van.
The RFK is lower and more dynamic looking .

I like the Audi R8 personally and i think it will make it's mark but my concern is that how long will it last until the next manufacture appears with their rival if Mercedes offers something which gets attention then the R8's 15 minutes are up. Which is exactly why BMW had no interest in the Enzo/Carerra GT and SLR segment because they are 15 minute cars .

I admit I am curious to see if Audi will be brave enough to drop their V12 diesel the R8 That would be some feat.

Nothing's changed on this end! All your claims are unfounded, also as I said earlier, I could careless about 5 to 6 year old stats! I'm sorry for getting all you Bimmer people all worked up. And to the person who made the remark about how many post I have, good come back:usa7uh:, I guess no one else should join GCF because their post count isn't up to your standers!:t-crazy2:

Who are you referring to just out of curiousity? If you are referring to a specific quote, quote the person.

Wow these forums are starting to look more like car spy forums or w/e.The M3 looks amazing in the shots and I think it can compete to with the 997 Carrera S. And if an M3 sedan is coming out i'ts going to be pure sex.

It is true we've had a few fights recently but overall we are much more controlled than Car Spy or Supercars.net.

haha.. enjoyed it..

PS
the M3 will be crazy..no doubt.. it will be close to the 997 hardly better..
and if Audi dont put a more powerfull engine in the RS8 the M3 might sniff its arse on the track..

Look I don't know who you are referring to as a "guy" or "gal" but let me make something clear to you. I have come into this thread because I have noticed some issues here and there with certain posts. I saw your post and since it was vague I asked you if it was directed towards me or not. You could've answered by saying that it was or was not. Now, in you saying that you are having fun with 'us' you are presenting a problem. The problem is that you are not suppose to come here and have "fun". I don't know what your particular definition of "fun" is, but if it is what you have been doing in this thread, you will see that you will not only have problems with me and the moderators, but with other members as well. So, you either clarify what you intentions are in this forum or you leave.

Are you being serious? No offense but you have 85 posts, you really have no business here questioning other members. First off, JM has been providing realiable info since the old days at GCF. Second of all, Scott and Eni lab have inside scoop before most automotive press.

Their ya go, ok?

I'm getting really sick and tired of this M3 vs RS4 discussion. Do you really think that BMW will come out with a car that cannot at least match the RS4? That's like saying Audi would not be able to match the E46 M3 when they were designing the car. If they didn't the RS4 would have been an utter failure.

"First off (PC VALKYRIE) get off your knees before you get rug burn!"
What are you 10?

OK?

That's fine with me. The problem is that you said that you were just having fun, and I think that is the last thing you should be saying. Other than that, everyting is fine. I just wanted to know if you were responding to the post--which by the way had to do with the thread but was not aimed at anyone--that I posted.

I will tatoo a BMW badge of my back if the 420hp(?) M3 manages to beat the 415hp GT3 at anything at all besides practicality. Even if the M3 might beat the base 911 models it won't be able to beat the GT3 and the 911 will still sit with its crown on the roof untill Porsche brings on a 400hp+ Cayman.

Gl with the tattoo when the next CSL comes along and beats the GT3 around the ring like last time.

The CSL is a pure track car with very stiff suspension and racing tires. It isn't the same type of car like the GT3 which can be used on a daily basis. The CSL is a car built to mainly be used on tracks.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
