The idea for this thread spawned when the member ree created the "Alpina picture thread" in the pictrure section. So then, my question is, would yoU rather have the the muscular B5 from Alpina or the revv hungry M5 from BMW? I'd prefer if you're choice was based on all factors, if you want to be a track star then maybe the M5 is better for you, maybe you're willing to give that little comfort, but maybe you're thoughts are vice versa.

No doubt Alpina is a little more exclusive than M5 since there are more M5's on the roads.

If comfort was important to me, Alpina would be my first choice over M5. But everyone on this board know Im a "sportguy". I prefer driving dynamics, driver involvement over comfort. I'm not choosing a M5 because Im going to use it on a track, if I want a track car I rather choose a M3. People here seem to think the M5 is suited for the track, its not, its too heavy. Sure you can take a few laps on a track but it wouldnt survive to long.
I choose the M5 because it offer several things, comfort, practicality, handling, speed and fun.

PS If it was AMG vs Alpina I think I would go with Alpina but since its M vs Alpina then M5 is my ultimate choice.

I had always been a fan of those big, powerful yet comfortable sedans and i also like the german luxury. I don't care though SO much about if my car is exclusive or everyone and his mother has one. So Alpina would be my choise. Big, beautiful yet powerfull and fast enough. And it has tons of luxury...

On the other hand there is the M5. M is M, but this is too hardcore to me and i have read here that many people say it could be more comfortable. So it has more drawbacks than the B5. Again, M is an M...

I drove both the M5 and the 550i pretty hard and could tell a difference in the chassis/suspension set up. If the Alpina is on a normal 5 series chassis I would definitely go with the M5 because its just that much more sure footed. Even if Alpina tweaked the chassis the M5 would still the car i would choose. The driving dynamics are that much better, honestly.

Alpina is more my kind of car. Torque, mmmmmm...... :icondrool

Oh, and the best time for the M5 0 to 200 is 13.5 sec.
Sport Auto were lazy.

lol man its not like you feel a difference between 13.5 to 13,8 ;)

BTW the laptime around nordschleife is 1.16,3 min for M5, not 1.16,5 min :D

I share the answer as you (y) I really like the exterior modifications done to the B5 and while the M5's 5.0 litre V10 is simply one of the best engine's ever made the 4.4 litre unit in the B5 is perfect for me.

You mean Hockenheim and when did the M5 get 1:16.3? ;) I've got 1:16.5 for the supertest and 1:16.7 for a multiple test with the E55 and B5.
