Ive said this before and I will keep on saying it , if there is a car brand that has the right to name a car a coupe or a sedan or whatever , I think it would be the one who invented it from the first place .

Okay, so if VW decided to call the Beetle a pickup truck that would make it one? I beg to differ.

Get the point !!! Mercedes is the first automobile maker . And please dont give dum examples like that , it's not like they are calling CLS an SUV .

CLS is considered the first four door coupe , can I make it any easier to understand for crying out loud ?

And how do you call this a poll if you are forced to pick what someone thinks is reality ?

Well, yes. If the 'pickup' wasn't already synonymous and applied to a certain type of vehicle and VW was the first to market the Beetle as a pickup then of course, we would all be calling small hatches 'pickup trucks'.
Besides the definition of coupe is way more vague than the definition of a truck.

According to a Finnish car mag, the CLS was the best-selling coupé in Finland in 2005. :eusa_thin I don't quite know what to make of it.

Okay, I've always had the opinion that all coupes had two doors and sedans all had four, but that's not true.

A coupé is distinguished from a sedan primarily by interior volume; SAE standard J1100 defines a coupé as a fixed-roof automobile with less than 33 ft³ (0.93 m³, 934.6 L) of rear interior volume. A car with a greater interior volume is technically a 2-door sedan, not a coupé, even if it has only two doors.

How does the CLS fit according to this definition? I don't have the interior volume numbers to check myself.

I'm going to doubt that's a fact, but I don't have time to do the research to prove it right now, haha. I heard someone mentioned a Ford Thunderbird made in the '70s as being a four-door coupe.

What ever you guys are trying to come up with , the truth is that the CLS is a four door car with with style and buffness and pillarless doors and two seats in the back , all these are charactaristics of a true coupe . The only difference is that it has four doors . For a while I was kinda confused about what to get : A coupe or a sedan ? This car solved it and rapped it up for me , dont know about you guys but it works for me . And I do believe it looks tons better than any porsche or bentley GT or whatever . TONS MORE STUNNINGLY THAN THE BENTLEY GT coupe .

Coupe ofcourse , because that is what is written on the title from MB's lease paperwork and registration , this is something that's unnegotiable .:t-hands:

NSL , if you ask me , Ill tell you that this thread is meaningless . It all goes to Mercedes the one who built the concept and registered it as a coupe . If you go to the blue book , it's a coupe , where ever you read about it , it's a coupe . Again , this thread is pointless .

really who cares..let MB call it what they want.. all ppl have their own mind made up about the car..
for me i go with MB and say its a 4 door coupe.. is there anyother 4ddor coupe.?? no.. so to me this is a new kind of car..
and we all know MB comes up with new car defintions every 5th year or so.. let them have fun:D
