CLK-Class (C209) CLK63 to eat M6????

The Mercedes-Benz C209 is the second generation CLK-Class, launched in 2002. The car was available in both hardtop coupé (C209) and in soft-top convertible (A209). Although its design and styling was derived from the E-Class, the mechanical underpinnings were based on the smaller C-Class. It was succeeded by the E-Class C207. Production: 2001–2009.

Am I the only one who thinks we're hyping this car up to be something it's not? Those performance figures are as a fast as a F430.

Actually my numbers are closer to the E55 Estate. I don`t know how fast the F430`s times are but I believe my numbers are within reason. I believe the CLK63 will ring in better numbers than the E55 Estate!
I don`t think thats being childish!;)

Article on E55 estate: http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=16&article_id=9835 the article says "Mommy, race that Ferrari"

Well, that's convenient. It's not that I don't want the CLK63 to be as fast as a Ferrari, I just doubt it will be. I can't believe we're even discussing this! It's insane when you really think about it. This is a $70K (guess) pedestrian coupe that may be as fast as an F430. Kudo's to AMG. I still want the Ferrari though.

I know, the Ferrari is an awesome car but AMG has really gotton serious!
Heck, this CLK63 is even more powerful than a Porsch 911 Turbo!!

I still find it strange that MB didn`t post the factory speed times!
Thay might want it to be a surprise!:usa7uh:

I may sound like a broken record but I really want to see a pace car derivative put into production. Under 1650kg, that would probably put the DTM to shame.

yea i agree Bum-man make that and then i would really start to apreciat this car because that one looks fantastic and has even greater performance so i would go ahead for it. Or just have it as an option so it stays even more exclusive

Why just Me ? havent we seen performance of the E55 outpace the 360 modena ? What makes it so hard for 63 to catchup with the F430? I am not being childish , Ive said it and Ill keep saying it untill the results are out , the 63 AMGs have many advantages over their previouses and are not to be taken as a joke , the M5 is not the only thing AMG is aiming at here .

And yes GTA , your numbers are too conservative , for a moment I feel as if you are afraid to be honest because of so many comments from others towards MB fans , but always remember that the CLS 55 has a 5 speed tranny wich cannot help as much between 60 and 100 mph as the 7Gtronic , that should convince you enough to see results as such as F430 . Oh yeah , and dont forget the 7200 RPM .:D
Believe me , if MB completely replaces an already amazing engine such as V8kompresser Im sure the improvement should be major .

These MB fans only care about straight line performance lol. All I here from them is how quickly its going to go from 0 to what ever.

Adding more gears is not guaranteed to make your car accelerate faster. It means you have to shift more, which means less time for the engine to put power to the ground. The 7 speed transmission was also designed for standard spec Mercedes so it's going to be not nearly as fast as SMG or DSG, even if AMG did improve shift times. The Kompressor V8 had so much torque that it didn't need two extra gears. It used its massive torque to pull those long gears. I realize that this engine has a lot of torque also, but it's not to the same extent as the Kompressor. Also, there is the problem of traction. The Kompressor V8 burned rubber like it was its job and I would assume that with shorter gears and this new engine, you're going to have the same problem. This car will certainly be a moster at high speeds but I'm not sure about 0-60 or even 60-100 where traction can be an issure with this much power. Most importantly, great specs on paper do not always translate to equally great performance in the real world. Time will tell though......

Don`t underestimate the AMG modified G7! Car&Driver tested the SLK55
and found out it`s as fast as a 6-speed manual!! 400hp Corvette!
Thay believe it`s due to the AMG G7. The SLK55 has a 50hp, 200lbs disadvantage on the Corvette yet can keep up.
I`ve said this before. If the AMG modified G7 can work this kind of magic on the SLK55 you can expect this magic on the 63 models.

We don`t only care about speed times?! (thats really become a lame comment) These new models will feature a host of new features that will come into play. The topic of this thread is "CLK63 to eat M6" Thats the discussion here!;)

So tell me how they improved something other than strait line performance. If they really want to "eat" the M6/M5 they have to work on there cornering capabilities, dont you think?

Please inform.

We don`t know yet. For now all we can do is speculate with the press info.
Thats all we have at the moment. Simple enough?

No matter what engine you put under the bonnet, A merc will never be a real drivers car until they start making non-automatic transmissions.

The SLR is an automatic, so is the CLK-DTM. Automatic transmissions have nothing to do with the athletic ability of an automobile.

Who said anything about athletic ability? I'm just saying that guys who enjoy driving and racing probably won't consider a merc because its just another automatic that anybody with money can drive fast.

Despite the fact that it may be true or it may not be true what you said, the way you phrased it might seem rather offensive to some other members here. Just letting you know
