Comparison tests Chris Harris: BMW M6 vs Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

True. That is a reasonable deduction Just Me.

How times change, with M's out comforting AMG's.

I know. Im a freaking genious :D

In Autozeitungs comparison between SL63 and M6 and they ranked M6 above SL63 in terms of comfort.

Sounds like you spend a lot of time driving in speeds around 160-300 km/h?
A 300 hp AWD car can take you to A to B as quick as a car with 600 hp and AWD and being just as fun. Those 600 hp will help you when you drive +200 km/h but how often do you drive like that.

Remember, you don't have to go fast to enjoy.......

I keep asking myself, how is the power in Rs6 more accessible (or more manageable) than Rs4 and when are those extra 200 hp going to help me?

I think we aren't on the same wavelength here Andreas, I thought you were talking about traction and not the fun factor, if its the latter then I agree, the most fun I've had recently is in the son's 60hp Polo. My comment relates to traction, 560-600hp can easily be used if you chose the right drivetrain.

P.S.
Don't compare RS4 with RS6 when discussing power, two totally different cars that will behave completely differently. Why not ask yourself if the RS4 had an extra 200 ponies could I still use them and I reckon the answer is yes.

I still wonder what advantage I will have with 600 hp instead of 400 hp...600 hp will be more useful when you travel in speeds like +200 km/h and when the police isn't watching you but 400 hp or 600 hp will still get you killed, no matter what you got under the hood.

By that logic, that is absolutely correct, all supercars and hypercars (Aventador, 918 Spyder, P1, F70,...) are all pointless. And I agree. I'd be more interested in a 300 PS car weighing 1.000 kg than in a 600 PS car weighing 1.500 kg.

But back to M vs. AMG, isn't it a bad M is getting less sporty and more comfortable?

The one thing that did bother me about this otherwise great review, is that Chris does mention that the M6 feels "loose" yet he also specifically mentions that he refuses to play around with any of the adjustable settings (dampers/transmission/throttle map) and only drives the car in COMFORT mode.

At least from my personal experience, having those configurations maxed out definitely transforms the entire character and driving experience of these modern M cars.

I think Chris Harris said the M6 coupe is more comfortable than the SL63, the M6 cabriolet is no comparison for the SL63.
