Let's see, it will probably have piss poor quality and safety standards and who the heck will want to pay over half a million for something that will very likely be a big POS and has no heritage and prestige like Bentley or Rolls Royce. :t-crazy2:

Chinese “Bentley” to debut next year, priced at $662,244

Shanghai. September 6 (Gasgoo.com) –First Automotive Works (FAW) will release a super expensive luxury Hongqi sedan next year, according to a FAW dealer in Beijing.

The super luxury car, priced five million yuan ($662,244) and dubbed as Chinese Bentley, will be primarily used for senior level Chinese government officials and visiting foreign dignitaries.

The car has retained many traditional features of previous Hongqi sedans, while borrowing modern luxury designs and technologies from world top level luxury cars. In many aspects, it can compete with Bentley and Wilhelm Maybach.

The super luxury car will be sold in a limited number in Chinese market in the third quarter next year. The car will not be sold through FAW sales channels; instead, it will be sold directly from its manufacturer.

I think China should first learn how to make good paint for children's toys before attacking the likes of RR & Bentley.

They failed to realise that it takes more then bells & whistles to be able to charge 660k for a car... like Wimmer said, you need heritage & pedigree to do that!

Hongqi seem to be a bunch of knuckleheads! :t-crazy2:

No pics? No worries, let's imagine how the car will look like:

The front of a Bentley Flying Spur, the rear of a Maybach and the side of the Phanthom. Engine? I guess a giant 7 litres V12 with only 250hp....

Oh, and tons of chrome :D

LOL, this will be good for a cheap laugh -- or perhaps not so cheap, if that price is to be believed.

I wonder if the execs at VW are loosing much sleep over this .........I think not.

You've got to give them credit for audacity -- it took the Japanese 50 years before they felt confident enough to take on the top marques of Europe and the USA.

The japanese do have something ultra-luxury for the senior government officials for more then 30 years and are limited to japan only (never export, not much production per year). And those vehicle, basically is not / cannot for general market. The style of them are really "Japanese"!!!! I think it is normal that the most senior local gov want something is from local maker instead of buying from foreign.

For the Chinese one, the engine, may is from Audi again (only guessing), since the engine of the current outdated top gov officials vehicle (Hongqi) is also come from Audi (as i remember). No worry guys, you will never see.

hongqi has a history of about 50 years now, so in the domestic market they do have some political clout as well as brand recognition amongst the locals. i see this is beneficial for the auto industry in china, it could only spur other makers to improve and gradually come up with original designs and innovative engineering.

what it will probably look like:
