Are Germans not afraid of the invasion of Chinese cars?

Hi everyone!

We know that's very common to find over the Internet a lot of jokes, comments, pictures, and videos about the [low] quality of Chinese cars. Here are some examples:

The [famous] Chinese car hitting a German bicycle.

A Chery Tiggo in Brazil almost losing a wheel [fortunately!] while parked. Maybe that is due to suspension quality [maybe not! Watch by yourself!]. If the video doesn't play here, you may watch it on youtube.

But the reality of Chinese cars is changing. Chinese car makers are now employing American and German engineers. They are also employing Italian and German designers. A visible result is an improvement in the design quality of the most recent Chinese cars. I don't know if safety ratings and reliability of these cars show any improvement. But it is sure that the Chinese car industry still has a long way to go even though.

Chinese car makers are now trying to enter new [difficult!] markets. For instance, Geely plans to sell cars in the U.S. by the year 2016. But it's a second attempt for Geely. The first attempt failed because American customers didn't know or trust the brand. Maybe the fact the Geely is now owner of Volvo may help [maybe not!]. Also, Chinese car makers are trying to increase their market share where they are already established. An example comes from Brazil. The presence of Chinese cars in Brazil was insignificant as of 2011. But as of 2013 Chinese car makers achieved almost 1% market share. That means around 22.000 Chinese cars sold per year. In other words, now it is very common to see Chinese cars on the roads and streets.

I heard nothing about what Germans are thinking about the [tremendous?] improvement of the most recent Chinese cars. I'm a little bit curious about that. That's the reason of this post. Any comment? Are Germans not afraid of the invasion of Chinese cars?
