Vs Car and driver: BMW M6 vs MB SL63 AMG vs Carrer S

When you'e sitting snugly in the beautifully trimmed cabin, you don't even notice the offset which can be somewhat exaggerated in photos.

You won't notice, say rust under the seats either "sitting snugly in a beautifully trimmed cabin" or not, but that doesn't mean it is not there or the car shouldn't loose points for it.

In case it is not clear, I am not saying people will notice it or not, I am just giving a plausible reason why they docked 3 points for fit and finish.

15k of 126k is not a 15% discount

Close enough to make me MAD!!!!

We get raped big time in Hong Kong. I was at the BMW dealer a couple of months ago and the HK dealer (Sime Darby) and the salesman gave me some BS about how they get audited by BMW Asia Pacific and are not allowed to give out discounts......................he later said he was really under the pump because each salesman has an annual target quota of 130 cars and was willing to give me a discount of something that equated to 0.7%.

I shook his hand politely and walked out. I didn't even answer his calls after that.

OT, but I am curios, do the dealers in your region charge mark ups for cars in demand or do the manufacturers also force them to sell those cars for MSRP?

Is the M6 convertible so different from its coupe counterpart, if its not then BMW has failed BIGTIME. Finishing last is bad if it were only against the SL and 911 but to be beaten by the ageing XK is a bitter pill for many to swallow here.

To be honest the real winner here is the SL because the 911 is really in a different class to the others.

No, they don't do mark-ups at the dealer level. They just tell you there is a long queue and you have to be patient. Then you go on the internet and find there are a few unregistered brand new cars available for sale at some independent car dealer......It is a known practice that some salesmen would allocate cars to their friends at independent dealers hoping to make some money over list price.

Mods, sorry for going OT.

Final word, I think the SL63, and even the SL500 for that matter, is definitely much better car than the equivalent 6-Sseries. The SL500 is actually on par with the previous SL63 in pretty much everything.

I must say ..this new SL seems to be a gem.. when it comes to everything besides the damn front.
But that is easily changed with the FL.
I really want to drive one..sounds like its brilliant:)

seems like the new sl handles very well

Yes, for a front-engined full size GT roadster. But it is no match for the Porsche 911, sadly. Even though one should not directly compare the SL and the 911, the two now compete in the same market.
