Zagato Capricorn 01 Zagato

Zagato is a coachbuilding company founded by Ugo Zagato in 1919. The design center of the company is located in Terrazzano, a village near Rho, Lombardy, Italy.
Capricorn unveils new ultra-driver-focused mid-engined rear-wheel-drive hypercar – the capricorn 01 Zagato capricorngroup.official (capricorn), the German-based industry leader in automotive and motorsport lightweight technology, has today unveiled the first limited-edition hypercar to carry the company’s name. The world’s first hypercar to feature a body designed by zagato1919, the capricorn 01 Zagato is a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive hypercar, engineered and handbuilt by capricorn in Germany to deliver a pure, immersive, analog driving experience. The capricorn 01 Zagato prioritizes lightweight technology and purity of driving over excessive horsepower. A 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine produces 900+PS (subject to final homologation results) and 1,000 Nm of torque. Featuring LMP1-type carbon fiber structure and carbon fiber body, the Capricorn 01 Zagato weighs less than 1,200 kg, ensuring an excellent power-to-weight ratio, exceptional agility, and a 0-62mph acceleration time of less than 3.0 seconds. Production of the capricorn 01 Zagato will be strictly limited to a run of just 19 coupes as a tribute to Zagato’s founding year, 1919. This number holds particular significance for the design house and serves as a nod to its history of creating highly sought-after, ultra-limited, collectible cars.

Oooo, despite being "yet another", I must say that looks rather good, outside and in.
As for the rest of it - including its ultra-limited number of 19 builds - a rather unremarkable thing to spend so much money on.
Too many billionaires...

Very pretty! I like it a lot more than the De Tomaso.

I take back what I said about the Coyote V8 being a disappointment in this. They've done a lot of work to it and it's got significantly more power than P72.
It starts making a lot more sense when you force yourself to think of the car as if it's a Zagato rebody of a Ford GT that actually got a V8. Still mega expensive, of course. But everything is these days.

And 5-speed dogleg manual in 2025 is wild!

There nothing wrong with the Coyote V8, at its heart the K'segg V8 is still a Ford Modular V8. I'd rathe rit be a Ford than a Chevy LS.

I don't have a problem with it anymore.
It just feels like a bit of a heel turn after you've criticized the lack of bespoke engine on a €1.43M Praga. This car is literally twice that, yet the bespoke factor no longer matters.

Its a vastly more modified engine then Litchfield just upping the boost on the VR38DETT engine. They've put some effort into developing the engine.

Yes, Capricorn's V8 has more involved modifications. But it's disingenuous to just say that all Litchfield did was turn up the boost. They blueprint them, convert to dry sump, change turbo cores and various other components.

The original argument wasn't about the degree of modification. You said something along the lines of: If I'm paying millions of euro, I'd want something bespoke.
Well, this is three million euro. And the engine is "only" highly modified. The logic doesn't seem consistent. Just saying...

That still stands, highly modified isn't the same as barely modified, the Capricon V8 is a bespoke version of the Ford modular V8, just like Koenigsegg's is, 85% of its components are custom-engineered and built in-house by Capricorn in Germany.

The GTR engine in the Praga isn't good enough for what you are paying, its a very expansive car with a cheap engine, I'm surprised they didn't use an LS. Praga could have gone to Cosworth, MAHLE Powertrain, Hartley or any number of other builders to develop a bespoke engine.

Then we have a disagreement about what constitutes a bespoke engine.
Your concept blurs lines between a highly modified Coyote and a truly bespoke engine the likes of GMA V12.

In my view, modified ≠ bespoke

A fair representation of the engine hierarchy would go like this:
bespoke > modified w/ bespoke parts > modified w/ aftermarket parts > stock

To say it's not good enough for what you're paying is entirely subjective.
Objectively, I could say that Praga beats Capricorn in every conceivable metric of "stat per cost"...

Here's what a €1,000,000 buys you with these two:
4.2 cylinders, 497 PS, 487 PS/tonne - Praga
2.7 cylinders, 305 PS, 254 PS/tonne - Capricorn

(I'm using 1,200 kg "dry weight" for Capricorn, and estimated 1,020 kg wet without fuel for Praga, not their 982 kg claim, which is now contested)

Of course this is not fair, since they are totally different types of supercars. Performance vs intangibles.

Also, since you've made the claim... What is the cost of a brand new VR38 crate engine straight from Nissan? And how much does it cost for Litchfield to prep them for Praga?
