The fact that it is done "targa" is a free gift that gives it even more and I do not understand how it is not imitated by Europeans, being so simple

I can't imagine the power and performance coming with future versions. The Z06 and the ZR1 are going to be outright demonic.

This car renders the Ford GT useless. Sorry but for the price you get an 8 cylinder motor, even higher performance variants will be 100K +, about a sixth of the GT, not to mention faster and probably better on track. A true renaissance moment for mod engines exotics.

packaging. Buyers of half a million dollar cars don’t want to be bothered by unlatchkng their roof on their own

Absoultely. Those versions have been hamstrung by the lack of dual-clutch transmissions for ages.
We just need to remember the supertest of Z06 in sport auto. C.Gebhardt had a lot of difficulties with manual gearbox. He did 7:14 and said with automatic transmission he would be much faster. Just with this gearbox you can shave 10 seconds of that laptime.

Correct, but there are not so expensive sports cars that could incorporate this simplified detail, without resorting to cutting-edge engineering only in half-million cars.

For that and for everything else that implies the immense attributes of this well-appointed supercar, I think that this corvette and its accessible price (rather incredible), will open the European market and others like never before, I do not understand how it can be so cheap a product so well rounded

Everybody (including the press) is only talking about 495 bhp, but this is with Z51 pack - the base version actually has 490 bhp. The C7 also had a Z51 pack with 5 bhp increase and other upgrades, I am asking myself if they really sell Corvettes without the Z51 pack?

The weakest part is that rear wing which looks busy/afterthought-ish.

Few thoughts....

THe wing and current wheel selection are weak. That, and the front light graphics. I was bashing the rear lights before, but I like 'em now.

I wonder if there are variations of the Tremec DCT that can handle all that torque in future hi-po variations or are they going to resort to something else.

I don't understand folks complaining about the row of HVAC buttons. The upper half of buttons seems most relevant to the driver, while the lower half seems to be for the passenger, and they are within easy reach of both occupants. I just think the interior is really well-done, but that's based on visual perceived quality. I really hope it's bang-on in person.

I somewhat understand the Ford GT vs. Corvette argument, especially the turbo V6 vs. V8. However, I understand why it's more expensive: CF monocoque chassis and race car aero. I could understand it if it was in the $350K to $375K range instead of the $600K+ arena

The folks who worked on this deserve a well-earned pat on the back. Well done!

EDIT: With regards to engine care/maintenance and repair, I wonder how sisgnificant the cost penalties will be to get this car serviced.

The 12 odd 718s they sell here in US will now become 2. Will take sheer will power to buy a ~300hp 4 banger for 70k when you can get 500HP V8 for 60k

OTOH, my critic of the design - - does every damn single shape, volume, line on the car have to be pointy missile shaped thing? Even single rear light have like 12 pointy shapes within it. It is almost like an 12 year old sketched it and he just couldn't contain himself.

Not feeling them either, those look too GT for what is a straight-up sports car. The other 5-spoke "ninja stars" just look anemic. This is one of the few cars where I definitely venture out into the aftermarket for wheels.
True, it is the only thing that is not at the level of the whole package, here a little improved

The Vette has always been a performance bargain vs other (that's you Porsche and BMW among a few others). Yes the design isn't the most cohesive (get it in black and conceal as much as possible), the interior is okay (better than before, but those graphics are terrible still) but by golly where can you get anything mid engine, with nearly 500 hp (without a turbo slapped on it) for somewhere around $60K ??

I am pleasantly surprised how good this car looks after the first pics shown the car appears very unconvincing. The car has some mixed styling ques from other cars and from the front has some Ferrari and Lambo elements. There are a few things that dont make me excited like the front light graphics and the design of the mag wheels, they would look better if not black and maybe a BBS style or even larger 5 spoke design would look great.

The interior is one of the most unconventional in any car on sale. It looks good with light trim mixed with the black, but the 2 things that I dont like are the steering wheel and the odd line of buttons running down the center console.

The seats look quite cool with the movable top bolsters and headrests and I like that it's a targa with a removable roof that can be stored in the boot. The perceived visual quality looks good. I like the 12inch instrument panel graphics and the center console infotainment scroller wheel and pad look similar to what is in a Mercedes S class.

I am sceptical about the claimed 0 to 60mph time of less than 3 sec, that doesn't seem logical considering it has only 500PS and has a weight of approx 1650kg. A McLaren 570S has more power and is 200kg lighter and that just about does 3sec.

I am not head over heels with it either but I will say the front overhang is pretty much kept in check for a mid-engine sports car. The up kick of the chin spoiler really helps a lot. This is probably one of the best features of the design.
