X6 BMW X6 4.4 V8 Bi-turbo Engine

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof).
I suppose enormous heat is developed right under the engine cover - which is made of plastic, btw. I just hope the plastic is heat-resistant. ;):D

These engine & engine bay must have hell of a cooling system to manage all that heat. :eusa_thin

most pieces of the airbox are made of Mg

Are you sure? That would be strange since Mg (although lighter) is worse thermal conductor than Al. Are you sure it isn't (brushed?) Al?
Yet I really hope it isn't just a galvanized plastic. :eusa_doh:

Humm I think the airbox is still made from plastic. You can see 2 little vents on the engine cover, but that alone isn't really enough to let much cooler air pass through.

can also be :t-hands:
maybe two-piece; only upper part in Mg - lower in Al
cause its no plastic, till the pipes and small things

Sorry I am a bit confused, which part of the engine are you referring to.

Btw, direct injection SI engines have better thermo efficiency and that means the combustion can occur at higher temperatures, which means the exhaust gas will be even hotter than usual. Notice the exhaust manifolds are thick looking cast alloy (not sure which type) items which seems to me can insulate the heat from the exhaust gas.

Perhaps air vents on a hood would help a lot at heat removal from the engine bay. I'm surprised the cars in the official photos doesn't have the vents (neither does the concept) - since the prototypes are featuring them.

Still the ducts are made of aluminum - so, having very good thermal conductivity. No special insulation there.

I guess the airflow through engine bay (and especially between the engine cover & hood) is designed to cool the area sufficiently.

I wonder what is the temperature surrounding the turbos and the exhaust manifold. Is BMW going to have an official technical press release for this new engine?

Can someone direct me to official press release information for this engine, including the detailed technical pics.

I'm very interested in this talk of mounting the catalytic convertors in the V of the engine - has anyone got a pic of their actual location? Also want to find more about those intercoolers mounted at the front of the engine... I gather they are charge air coolers.

And yes, Eni, (you bastid ;) ) now I know exactly why those spy pics of the F01 7er engine bay had me so perplexed! Quite simply, we've never seen the likes of such an engine before.

BMW does it, yet again. I'm very impressed.

Another International engine of the year prize for BMW. :D

I just cant wait what will Hartge or AC Schnitzer do with this engine :)..Already this engine putts rivals to its knees and,if I´m not wrong, this is just stage 1 configuration (power and torque figures).IMO,M5 and other performance bemmers will be endangered more than ever :t-drive:..
