X1 BMW X1: CGIs, spy pics & info

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.

I find the nose-down stance of the car interesting in that shot. Quite a bit of nose-dive under braking (though not unusual at all for a car with raised ride height) and it begs the question: how good to drive is BMW going to make the X1? Rearward-biased handling traits?

What of sportier and even X1 M versions? The precedent has been set after all... I quite like the idea of an X1 M - it has the same spirit attached with it as my beloved Forester STI. Lord, why didn't we get that car here!?

I like the details but have no high hopes for it...

The silvery parts in the front and rear looks like on the TT-RS :D

Scott, will the X1 be availible with self-levelling rear suspension as an option?

Mmmm...the front fenders (LH & RH) should have been more agressive e.g. M3 ish... Looks cramped and squashed from the front - grill too big side fenders too narrow...not very sporty. Hope the next X3 is more agressively sporty.... A very feminine car...THE TARGET MARKET???

but your still surfing the forums :D
now you are officially a GCF addict, welcome to the gang :usa7uh:

Engines and 2 WD

My dealer told me 2WD(sdrive)and 4WD(xdrive) will be aivailable for engines 18d 20d 23d staight away production november:)

X1 now...so it's the X1,X3,X5,X6....BMW's SUV range is growing. I still don't understand why anything needs to be smaller then an X3. After that you might as well just by a station wagon.

An X7 hyrbid would have been much more interesting. Or if the economy wasn't bad maybe a X7 V10. But an "extra"-small SUV....hmm what's the purpose?

I honestly don't see the point of doing mega big suvs either.

Why buy a station wagon when there's an X1 SAV which has a more 'youthul' image?
That target market for this car do not want a station wagon because it has a 'boring' stigma to it. The X1's size isn't a problem because it's not meant to be a vehicle where you have 2 adults + 3 kids (it's capable of it, but the target market would rarely have such a family size). What you also have to remember is the upcoming X3 will be bigger than the current one... the new X1 isn not a full-size smaller than the X3, it's only a few inches here and there smaller than the current X3 (so only half-a-size smaller)...while the new X3 will fit nicely between the X1 and X5. Yeah sure there's a little bit of overlap, but better to try and cover the market yourself than leave that gap for your competition to capitalise on.

Oh boy... a vehicle the size of an X7 in a hybrid form..... can you imagine the uproar at a hybrid SUV of that size. We hear enough whinging about the LS600h and the Escalade/Suburban being pointless hybrids because of their size. To a point I agree that a larger BMW SAV would have worked because looking at the Q7 which is larger than the X5, it's clear to see that those who buy large SAVs just 'coz its bigger' would be drawn to a larger BMW SAV....but I guess unlike the X1, BMW feels the market size and ROI would not be compelling enough to give this idea a green light. I strongly believe this because BMW were thinking about an X7, but decided against it.... so that leads me to believe the marketing team weren't convinced that the model would be a success.

Or if the economy wasn't bad maybe a X7 V10.

Say what??? .... had BMW acquired Aston Martin then there might be a chance of a powerful SAV but not under the BMW brand.
