Agreed. A "prestige gap" in a BEV is wasteful use of space.

A BEV sedan should still have it, because it's fugly otherwise. Prestige gap is very needed on non SUV type cars. IMO of course.

So why judge a BEV using an ICE criteria.

Because the eye wants something too. It doesn't have to only be functional. Just like a grille. I have no problem whatsoever with a grille on a BEV. I prefer it actually.

It's true, as cars like the Lucid Air don't have it and still manage to look expensive.

That car looks cheap and ugly, sorry. The fugly wheelbase indeed is a big part of that. But to each his own, you're free to think that thing looks good. I sure don't. It looks like a big Mondeo redesigned by some woke loser.

But that is just conditioning. People like familiar things and averse to change. Also why they did this -

In 20 years, a grill on EV will look as absurd.

My point is the "prestige gap" has any prestige associated with it cause it is associated with the proportions of ICE powered RWD cars in contrast to cheaper ICE FWD cars. But that association is strictly an ICE thing and not applicable to BEVs. So why judge a BEV using an ICE criteria.

It would be as silly as putting a big grill on a BEV... oh wait, never mind!

I don't disagree with your statement but at the same time I'm not going to chastise myself for wanting a transition period with design. They're still cars at the end of the day and the proportions of a car with a nice dash to axle ratio look better to me at this time. It's part of the reason I think the Model S still looks good. I'm sure I'll get with the program at some point or manufacturers will find another way to make cars not all look like pods.

Take off the horse’ head and it looks like a prehistoric Tesla

The Horsey Horseless was not designed to appeal to the owners or buyers - or as implied - help people adjust to change, but to avoid alarming other horses. Since it did not appear to make production, I'd suggest that not only did it not fool other horses, but those owners that found themselves missing the muscular shoulders and buttocks of their horses probably thought this looked shit also.

edit:

Uriah Smith, inventor of the horsey horseless;

“The live horse would be thinking of another horse, and before he could discover his error and see that he had been fooled, the strange carriage would have passed, and it would then be too late to grow frantic and fractious.”

Hold your horses on that, from the horse's mouth -

According to the patent - it was a “new and original design for a vehicle body, and it has for its object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.”

Guessing the "useful"bit was fooling horses and the "ornamental" bit was fooling people, however unsuccessful it was in either.

And not to beat a dead horse -

These changes required some getting used to. The first time people saw a carriage roll down the street without a horse in front, they were shocked. Rural Americans viewed this “Devil’s Wagon” as symbolizing the decadence of the city, and introduced restrictive laws to block its intrusion. Horses, skittish to begin with, were spooked by these loud, rambling horseless carriages and prone to run away, taking their passengers careening with them.

In 1899, Uriah Smith came up with a solution. The issue he realized, was psychological more than functional. Even if automobiles performed better, a horseless carriage was still hard to conceptualize. So Smith proposed something to make horses, and people, more comfortable....

You're reaching (and you know it ;) ). Just like the Taycan, proportions will remain very important. And thus on a proper EV as well.
Cars are what they are. Minor changes will occur, but going from a carriage to a car is just a crazy example, and it does not work.

Keep telling yourself that sweetheart. It was designed (compromised) to accommodate a ICE and transmission from the start. The i3 is a posh prius, not a pure EV.

Darling, where did you hurt your head? The i3 is pure BEV. You could get a range extender some time ago, but that was just an extra because batteries were too poor a couple of years ago.
Calling the full carbon i3 with it's unique platform compromised is just laughable and doesn't show much insight.

Listen, I am all for EV and stuff, but you guys are something else sometimes.

"Horsey Horseless" sounds like the title of a post-toddler childrens' TV series. A program most suitable for the little kiddies of avid "Teslarati" and an "electric Teletubbies" if you will. "Laa-Laa, now don't chew on that charger cable !".

Let's wait for the final product does look a bit off for now but will wait ...they have gone the previous gen MB route even seat adjustment on the door is that a first for BMW?

I was looking at that too and wondering if those aren't the door handles. In which case it would be a shame to get rid of the crurent U-shape aviation style handles which have just barely made it to the entire lineup.
