Vs BMW M760Li vs Porsche Panamera Turbo

That’s a fine pair of competing car. Twin Turbo V12s are brutal in power and the 760Li looks the business. With its wide seats and big interior is definitely the pick ifor effortless cruising. I do love the Panamera though and its sports car like demeanour. It probably handles so well that one exceeds legal speeds in corner.

In the drag race the 760Li got off the line very quickly but didn’t build a lead. Does the Porsche have shorter gearing?

This calls for a "tight" M860i Gran Coupe ! Of course, an M8 Gran Coupe would be nice as well.

1st and 2nd are higher ratios in the Porsche, from third onwards they're higher in the BMW**. Final drive is higher in the Porsche also. Given it has less torque overall, and less torque at the bottom end, the gearing on the Porsche at low revs probably helps to compensate for this a bit... the the 7-er launches in 2nd anyway.. don't know about the Porsche.

**I am f'in knackered at the moment and am having a total and utter mental block on gear ratio terminology :sleep:

The bigger the ratio - the shorter the gear. Don't you just hate that @Matski. :p

My expression right now...

.. need. more. Tea.

Looked like the Porsche walked away, but it didn’t the M760li maintained the gap.....I’d choose it in a heart beat that 6.6L is a gem.

Ooh, the banter! Seems anyone can be an "Automotive journalist" these days.

Nothing to bait here, it is an even match.
The Porsche is the choice for those who care about an entertaining drive in a large sporty 4 door without that lemo feeling.
It would definitely be my choice in this comparo.

To be fair, back in the days automotive journalists were only required to write reviews in the magazine, I don't think every one of them is required to be a Youtube star.

They should've thrown in the S63..

Agreed, Motor1 seemed to like it.

"Make no mistake, a nearly 5,000-pound S-Class doesn’t handle with the same tactility as the aforementioned AMG GT, but wow, is this thing impressive. I don’t remember any version of the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, or Jaguar XJ feeling this nimble and energetic on winding mountain roads. The big Merc does a great Panamera Turbo impression here, with a nicely balanced chassis, a firm handshake from the steering wheel, and an all-wheel-drive system that doesn’t slap you on the wrist for trying to have a little fun. This new S63 is far more raucous in execution than any of its predecessors. What a doll."

The M760Li has already seen off the S63 AMG as per another test.

^That was one test, this is another.
There are more to come. Anyway the M760Li lost to the S63 in the dynamics department of that test.
(Awesome time to be an S-Class these days.)

But was the overall winner for competence.

Goodness, it was one comparison test by one outlet (Autobild), not a conclusive decision. The more comparison tests the better, considering that they're in the same category.

For the first time, all 4 German brands have competitive in-house performance variants of a executive saloon.

Its all about personal preferences, pick the car you want, not What other people think . This is big saloons, if you want something sporty, get a small and a more nimble car. In this category of cars I want something else.

These are infact, hi performance versions of these cars, like it or not. Your point has no relevance to the topic at hand.

You just have to appreciate the M760i for what it is: A hooligan wearing some sort of modern-day version of King Ludwig IIIs' clothes. And that's very cool in terms of the context.

Still, the Panny II ROCKS. Hard.
