The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

Cross all your fingers and your toes!
They are seriously considering an M5 Touring!!

@SCOTT27 If you could just refresh our memory a little, what were some of the key reasons that BMW / M had for not offering an M5 Touring with the previous generation/s?

BMW can't sell them in meaningful numbers, little money to be made. No Touring. Same will apply to the upcoming gen most likely.

Audi won't sell an RS6 sedan, and BMW will not make an M5 Touring, because the E61 M5 sold little over 1000 units combined worldwide.

But maybe a Touring has been a part of he equation @ M this time, so maybe the development costs aren't that high for the G30 M5, and they will offer one this time again, if a profit can be made...

ANY responsible company will always be "considering" additional body styles. We don't need an anonymous person on the internet to tell us that. Until it's actually announced then the "info" means absolutely nothing. It could be completely made up and baseless in fact.

Getting back to the matter in hand.
BMW seriously considered the E39 M5 Touring for inclusion, some units were specially built for BMW executives two I know of still have them in their garage.
The E61 was given the green light in the regards to the popularity of the Audi RS6 Avant which on that generation was also available as a Sedan and of course so was the E-Klasse W210/W211.

Despite its small market a High Performance wagon can be lucrative.
E61 might not of sold in large quantities as the M5 Sedan but it sold its allocated units before the V10 was pulled. Today the E61 keeps its value more than the Sedan because it is rare and less likely to be assaulted by the Aftermarket.
Mine has been relatively trouble free sailing through its services and mechanical appointments but just recently the Takata airbag cloud is hovering above and waiting to see if the E61 will be affected as are multiple other 2000 era BMWs.

This generation F11 was considered and again some were built and tested but the more profitable X5M and X6M were more of a priority as that was in demand not a super fast wagon.
The excellent M 550d Touring is considered to be the M5 Touring with the compromises such as xDrive and its Phenomenal high performance diesel.

M550d is a huge hit as the more popular Touring outsells the Sedan. So it is this the consideration is based on to return to an M Touring. Another factor regards the issue with the popularity of the SUV which to some is a bit like the focus on comic book movies some see it as overkill that some are tired of and indeed want to be more different.

ANY responsible company will always be "considering" additional body styles.

Not the case with the E61 Touring, as I remember BMW M had to reinvent a completely new rear axle (or heavily modify the existing one to the point of all new) that was up to par with their standards. The regular Touring wasn't good enough for M and so they invested a lot of time and money into something nobody would ultimately buy.

This is all useful info but it has nothing to do with my point. The term "different body style" doesn't necessarily imply an identical chassis with a different body on it.

I was simply saying that with each iteration of M product, BMW will always consider different body styles, whether that's the M3, M5, M6 etc. We have an M4 coupe and cabrio, but you can be sure they also considered an M4 Gran Coupe but decided it wasn't worth the investment.

It will be no different with the G80 M5. They'll consider a Touring version, as they always do. The fact that Scott said "they're considering a Touring M5 for the next generation" is no less than what I would expect, and is therefore nothing to get excited about and is not NEWS.

BMW F90 M5 will get Gesture Control, Display Key

With less than two years to go until the new BMW F90 M5 launches, new information come to surface. According to a trusted source, the new uber-sedan will get a plethora of optional features that will include things like the new Display Key and Gesture Control.

The M model will be borrowing tech from the G11/G12 7 Series and it will bring forward a new take on how the Motorsport division does business. CFRP panels and inserts will be used throughout the body, from the roof to the pillars, while aluminum will be making up for a lot of the chassis. Therefore, the weight is expected to be reduced by at least 100 kg (221 lbs) compared to the current model.

Under the hood, the F90 M5 will use the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 layout, but with some important updates done to it. The power output is expected to go up to around 600 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. Sources say the new M5 will be offered with all-wheel drive. The question remains whether the car will have xDrive as standard or if it will be optional.

Another extremely interesting bit about the new M5 is the incredible list of optional features. Apart from the aforementioned Display Key and Gesture Control features you will also be able to get massaging and ventilated seats up front, the new Bowers & Wilkins sound system, automatic tailgate operation, Ambient Air package with a variety of scents, Parking Assistant Plus (the car will be parking itself), Driving Assistant Plus (the car will also be driving itself), Remote Control Parking, Night Vision, Wi-Fi Hotspot and many, many others.

BMW M5 & M6 to lose the manual transmission

BMW M GmbH President Frank van Meel has confirmed the manual transmission will be dropped from the M5 and M6.

Speaking to Car & Driver, van Meel said “Demand had dropped to zero” for the six-speed manual transmission in the M6. The manual transmission has also been a slow seller in the M5 so it will be no longer be able available after the current model goes out of production this fall.

Despite the decision to eliminate the manual transmission from the M5 and M6, van Meel said the company is still committed to manual transmissions. As he noted, "On M2, M3, and M4, the manual transmission will stay."

The news will probably irritate some enthusiasts but the move isn't terribly surprising as the models are equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in most markets. The automatic variants are also faster than the manual counterparts as the M5 accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds with the dual-clutch transmission whereas the manual variant is a tenth of a second slower.

As a refresher, BMW is putting the finishing touches on an all-new M5 which will likely be introduced sometime next year. The model is expected to have an upgraded 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that produces up to 626 horsepower.

Does it scheduled only for the top models of the respective ranges or will it be offered as option for all models?

:)

So far the OLEDs will be available on the M5. Think of OLEDs as Laser Light compared to how much they cost on the i8 to how much they are on the 7er because they are being developed and the costs are dropping as they are used further.

The Z5 will have them in the upper echelons.
Which if we make it more realistic without the added on body elements and more proportionate rear lights.
but developed in one constant form we get a rear for the Z5 highly influenced, but rendered for realistic purpose from the Vision Connected Drive.

The Z5 will also feature a manual transmission as will no doubt the Z5 M because of its sports car nature.

They will soon be talking about this car (Z5).

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
