M5 BMW M5 (F90) - Spy Pics & Info

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

Yes that is correct but they are being more open to choices consider unorthodox to the strategy in the past now.
So hopefully a business case can be made. Or else a M550i or M550d would not be a poor choice.

I hope Audi's plan to make both an RS6 Avant and Saloon will finally persuade BMW to produce a touring. MB will have both

V8 estates are something... but the V10 estate was something else - they need a follow up

Got it. Whats the reason behind that?

If they remove the air breather at the bottom, will the indentation still stay? - in other words - will it still resemble a hockey stick?

If I remember correctly. The intake aligns with the character line with the grille underneath mixing both the M5 character with the latest M3 and M4. The imprint in the metal for the air breather aligns with the intake but does not fully connect.

The problem is SUVs are more popular and profitable than high performance wagons. I have heard people talking about the X3M and its similarities to the new M5 Aerodynamics by being more angular and aggressive.

Ahh i understand now, thats clarified things.

It will be a first for the M5 to future the M4/3 influenced intake. The only potential problem i can see with this, is that the double shoulder line starts just before the wheel arch. So if the intake is in its stereotypical place, It may disrupt the design and look like two shoulder lines appearing out of the intake.

Sad but true i guess. I guess it just bothers me that cars like the M6 have 3 different body styles. Developing a touring doesn't involve adding doors or chopping off roofs, but rather just an extension of a roofline.

Any updates on the X drive system in the M5? Will its name be rebranded?

This render its little stupid
Cause has 2 air breather which is not possible
But still this bumper okey for me;)

Heard today that you can switch off the FWD part of the x-drive system if you want to have some fun in the M5. Ingenious!
How will this be done? By uncoupling the front diff via hydraulic clutch, or just by uncoupling the front wheels?

I think full on drift mode without front wheels. I always wondered why no manufacturer had ever done this in this age where you can decouple front and rear however you like.

That's sounds good , but where would that leave the actual RWD M5 ? Won't be surprised if they completely drop it and claim that this is a better solution which it won't be.

According to someone on the other site this car will apparently do 3.1s-60mph or 3.3s - 100km/hr which would be totally insane for a heavy 4 door sedan .... It all seems to be pointing at the new M5 coming as AWD only.

If you can completely decouple the front (which I believe will happen) then there is no reason not to offer xDrive standard.

The only negative this will cause is a slightly heavier front - but with the weight savings of the new generation - doubt we will feel the difference

BMW have not met any of its weight claims M3/4 or 7er so I'm not too convinced that the 5er or the M5 will weigh less than the previous generation. Hope they will prove me wrong.

Guys lets guess how will look the bumper of the f90 m5 or similar to which model..
For me i think to the X5M but without the black part.

Cause also in the last generation of the x5m and x6 the bumper if you focus you can see that they were similar to the F10 M5 now.

The thing I love (and hate) about BMW is how good they are at camoflauging their cars. I'm left guessing until the reveal what the bumpers will look like

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
