M3/M4 [Official] BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
The press drives haven't happened yet. I believe they're within the next two weeks in Turkey. On the forum we cannot mention, someone has spotted several M4's in Istanbul, so the press drives must be imminent.

Yet again though, a BMW test driver has spoken off the record and said he doesn't like the engine note compared to the V8. I've heard this many times from various sources over the last six months. I know a guy who goes to the driver training at the Nurburgring and is friends with many of the drivers there, and he says that off the record, they don't like the noise one bit.

From the videos it sounds like a leaf blower.

I have driven with an M3 V8 manual and and an E46CSL. Both cars owned by a mate of mine. The V8 in standard form I dont like one bit, and so did the owner. Now it has an Akrapovic exhaust and it is much better.

Even so I prefer the exhaust sound of the E46CSL (standard) much more. Only the sound alone would be enough to buy this car, really gorgeous!!

I think the exhaust sound video clip that this new owner has posted sounds better than all previous videos. Have you listened to it yet? I can't post the link but you know where to look. The worst sound was the cold start in that parking lot.

Yes, that latest video from Abu Dhabi does sound better.

But there are still many videos where it sounds terrible. Time will tell I guess.

More driving impression by the M3 owner

The steering is just beautiful. Nicely weighted and not too heavy even in sport+

In the M6, sport+ was when you had no time to go to the gym and wanted to train your arms.
The efficient mode is light but not too light.

I kept on switching from sport to sport+ and both were perfect with sport+ being a tad heavier but feels direct.

As for throttle response,
I switched from sport plus to efficient and the pedal felt not as responsive and the noise of the car came down. It is actually louder in Sports+
My E90 was always on comfort or sport but never sport plus in the throttle response.

Also
I was excited to see that the car is responsive in Sport+ and does not seem to have lag. Of course the shove will come once you are up in the rpm range, but in the 1M I had to wait a bit. This really feels like a proper M3. Thank you BMW.

The sound of the engine really builds up at 4k rpm and gets louder. When pulling away from stops, it is a but N54 with exhaust but then changes charachter to a deep mechanical BMW inline 6. I can hover at 4k rpm all day.

I need to finish this break in asap.
Will try to stay awake :-)

With CSL, it is not exhaust sound that dominates, but the induction noise. And what a sweet noise it is. It is like singing vs farting. As good as all these new exhausts sound, you still know it is coming from the wrong end.

Nephew had an E46 M3 which he swapped the intake for a CSL unit and while it was a million times better than before it still didn't sound as sweet as a real CSL which made me wonder what else was different that might be cause it to still sound better.

I haven't the foggiest idea what you're talking about.
He was replying to me and I know what he is talking about, he is alluding to another BMW thread where we were discussing the proliferation of M badges on non M vehicles. Please don't start another war with him in this thread!

I won't. But that's just typical @klier. I have been tolerating him for the last six months but I'm just getting really fed up of him. It's fine to have opinions, and strong ones at that. I'd respect him for it. But when you challenge him on them he realises his argument doesn't hold much water so he reacts hysterically like a girl and cries I'm "obsessed" with him.

3562 lbs with full tank, 6 speed, steel brakes, CF roof, and a bunch of other options like HUD, Premium stereo, big wheels...

Not far from the 3540 lbs curb weight listed on bmwusa.com - http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Cont...Features_and_Specs/M3SedanSpecifications.aspx

Believe the weight for E92 M3 on bmwusa.com was 3704lbs.

DblPen, I believe M4 is a bit lighter than M3 (F80), and M3 (F80) is lighter than E92 M3 coupe and F80 M3 sedan :)

Pfff...

You know what! The M4 doesn't do it for me.. well not standard anyway.

It just doesn't look that special FLAME ME

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
