I would think M8 GranCoupe Mk2 to be out before the other 2 on this list..

I'm talking about Mk2 M8 GC, which is planned to be designed and developed exclusively by M. Expect the launch date sometimes in 2025/26.

The upcoming Mk1 M8 GC (coming soon!) is not an exclusive M car but "just" regular 8er GC with M upgrade.

The strategy behind "Designed & Developed by M" is to offer M exclusive sports luxury performance vehicles in the very high-end segments.

Other M models will be "just" regular BMW models with M upgrade (engine, transmission, brakes, suspension etc) as per usual.

That the strategy as per today.

Stand-alone M models will be more about sportsluxury performance than supercar performance.

This confuses me a lot!
In the past the main handicap, which M moaned about, when they got compared performance wise with the Porsches, Audi R8 and AMG GT, was, that they did NOT have a bespoke sportscar platform to build on!
So we are talking about basic things like:
Structure/material of body in white
Layout of body and chassis (weight distribution, engine placement, transaxle options)
Suspension technology/layout.

All those things are things, which you would solve very different starting with a clean sheet of paper, when you focus on a sportscar and are also heading for a different price segment. You then do not even think about cost effective solutions, which you have to, when the basis also has to be usable for run of the mill 320i and 520i ....

But if we are now talking about a sportsluxury car this is all needless! With this positioning ///M would not even need a bespoke platform/underpinnings. Allready the M8 serves this perfectly! Luxurious, brutally fast ... however not a genuine sportscar like 911/Corvette/R8/....

THe prospect of an X model being the first dedicated ///M car....that just feels so wrong. So wrong. Disturbing times.

This is an understatement of the highest order.

Every M car is developed exclusively by M. The premise was a standalone model. There seems to be a big misunderstanding of what a standalone model actually means. It looks like everybody has his own definition here. Very awkward.

Currently 3 models are considered to be exclusively developed by M GmbH,and are planned to be introduced in the following order:


X8M SAC - there will be no "normal" X8 ... there will be M models only, all developed & DESIGNED by M ... and will look more like iNext / X2 than X6 or X4

M Coupe - 2+2 sports coupe as true successor t...
