BMW 3.0 CSI modernised with M5 engine, suspension and interior. Like a Singer but in reverse.

It's still a fabulous and dreamlike car. :)

The 911 has and will always be a sports car, how can it be a GT? Its one of the benchmark sports cars in the world, totally disagree with your statement.
@KiwiRob.

Do you think the Nissan GTR is a GT or a sports car? It has 4seats but it drives better than many mid-engined supposed sports cars!

Two very different cars with a very similar purpose, they are both attempt to bring cutting edge technology to a relatively low price, in Honda's case it is the performance hybrid+ICE tech, in BMW's case it is the relatively mass manufacturing of carbon fiber structure and components. IMO the i8 is more innovative, but it is the Honda for me because it is the more exciting package of the two.

IMO the 911 is now a rear engined GT/supercar for some variants, the Cayman/Boxster has taken over as Porsches sportscar. The 911 has gotten bigger, more luxurious, it's no longer the same kind of car that was launched in the 1960's when it was a sportscar.

The GTR defies classification, if can be so many things but I don't believe sportscar is one of them.

What a beautiful car!!!!!

Yeah, he keeps posting that picture when he is being accused of being anti BMW. This is the third time I see him posting it.

Insane statement. Utterly.
The only correct thing is that the 911 is not the same as in te '60s.......WELL DUH!!

Clearly, KiwiRob's own definitions and classifications are anchored within a 20th century paradigm and yet he berates and insults members with a more pragmatic and modern view of the world.

First time I've posted the silver one, the black one I love, I'll post it many time again, it's the best looking BMW I've ever seen, nothing comes close. Here it is from the rear.

Of course it's not the 60's, it's not even the 90's. The 911 has growen up, it's now a GT, my opinion is my opinion, I've still not heard a single response which contests it, all you lot have said not it isn't but no reason why it is, so it basically makes me think many can't think for themselves and follow the concensus.

And the 911 got bigger because people got much bigger in the last 50 years. Bigger and fatter. That's a big part of why cars have grown.
If you fail to see the difference between a 2015 sports car (911) and 2015 GT (M6), I am afraid I can't help you.

And that 3.0 is beyond stunning indeed.

Not to mention safety rules and legislation. Either he is detached from reality or needs to justify to himself why he doesn't have a sports car.

If superficial things like size and form factors is the basis for his definition of sports car, so be it. To me and most others, it is the way the car drives that is the essence of sports car, be it come in the form of a supercar or a hot hatch or a sedan, I don't really care. All sports cars to me.

Interesting anecdote, had some seat time in a 930 recently... the car that spawned my love for 911s. Big mistake, far cry to call it a sports car from the way it drives. It is easy to romanticize about old cars on the Internet, but talk is cheap.

Dimensions L x W x H x WB x FT x RT

BMW i8 (2+2 seats):
4,689 mm (184.6 in) x 1,942 mm (76.5 in) x 1,298 mm (51.1 in) x 2,800 mm (110.2 in) x 1,644 mm (64.7 in) x 1,576 mm (62.0 in)

Acura NSX (2 seats):
4,470 mm (176.0 in) x 1,940 mm (76.4 in) x 1,215 mm (47.8 in) x 2,630 mm (103.5 in) x 1,655 mm (65.2 in) x 1,615 mm (63.6 in)

Mercedes AMG GT (2 seats):
4,546 mm (179.0 in) x 1,939 mm (76.3 in) x 1,288 mm (50.7 in) x 2,630 mm (103.5 in) x 1,680 mm (66.1 in) x 1,651 mm (65.0 in)

The BMW proportions appear to be completely normal considering the 2+2 format really. Still it would have mad more sense being a two seater because the rear seat make no sense.

Every car nowadays has grown up compared to previous models from their first generation and not just the 911. It is a sports car that normally sets the driving benchmark for all other supposed sports cars in its class. It is a car that keeps raising the bar in performance, handling and roadholding and to which all other sports cars are judged against. The new version probably drives a whole lot better than the 911 cars from the 80's which you may consider a sports car, those previous versions were really unpredictable (snap oversteer) when unleased on a twisty road. It still manages to put a smile on many peoples faces with its great engine sound, throttle response, steering precision, handling balance and its outstanding blend of attributes that define a sports car, like low driving position, rifle shot speed gearchanges, rear engine and its classical timeless looks

Oh don't worry, we have been off topic for a long time already. From i8 vs NSX to whether the 911 is a sports car or not.
